Possibly leading up to the imminent release of his book?

I get the impression that the feller is not well regarded around here?

I get the same impression , although I don't share it having known him long before this forum started .

He is a very knowledgeable , dedicated and genuine guy , if a bit mono-directional in his views :)

If he can get eighty big one's for a rebuilt W123, he sure as hell has my respect.

He loves his cars - and he has a "soft spot" for the W123 ... That's a nice thing. I've enjoyed speaking with him on several occasions.

And our enthusiasm for Mercs, more notably for those here with older ones, needs proper specialists with reference-standard knowledge. Mr Cosovich seems to be that person and it's good for those models and the marque in general that he works in the field.

Can't conceive why anyone can have an issue over someone like him...

Martin Buckley is (in my opinion at least) a great motoring journalist so on that basis, and the fact i have a serious but as yet unfulfilled love for the W123 CE, this will be on my Christmas list

santa, are you listening?

He is a nice guy who loves the W123.. Yes he is a bit single minded and doesnt have much time for anything non W123 and definitely no time for cars that arent as they left the factory.
However, I admire that, he does know the model inside out and he is single handedly keeping the values up!

Ill be getting the book for sure.

I always thought the W124 was "the last of the properly engineered cars" Mercedes produced. I also have a soft spot for the 123 and as soon as funds allow, one is on my list to own again. The banger I owned was still head and shoulders above anything else I'd driven.

No it was actually the W126. Or was it the W201 ? Then again, I think I remember someone saying that it was definitely the W140.....

I remember, when the W123 was launched , people decried it because it had PLASTIC door handles and , in so many ways , wasn't a patch on the W114/5 that it replaced .

Another friend remarked , every new car they bring out : it gets worse !

I kind of know where they were coming from , as was Mark C once in a telephone conversation when he told me that he had bought a W124 for his family and was so disappointed in it that he had put it through the crusher the week before !

There's progress , and there's progress .

My one and only conversation with Mark Cosovich.

Me. Hello Mark, I'm an Owners Club Member and need some help with an M110 problem and it's been suggested you could assist.

Mark. What miles has it done?

Me. About 115000

Mark. It'll be scrap.

Me. Really?

Mark. Yes...but I've got a good one for sale here.

Me. Click!

Ive related that story a couple of times to others who know him and all agreed it was par for the course.

You hung up on him? Says more about your own take on the world than anything else...

I stopped calling him simply because our conversations normally lasted over an hour. My wife thought I was having an affair one time. That time, all I called about was a rear tail lamp trim....

If you like the W123 with a passion, you will get on with him...

He wasnt always W123 mad. He used to restore and break all 80's Mercedes models.
I bought many original R107 parts from him back in the late 90's.

I remember I bought a full original brand new R107 500SL exhaust system from him for around £350. The dealer price was over £900 back then.

He also helped me with a lot of hard to find W123 parts.

Although from what ive heard, he is not really into parts sales as he keeps them all for his own restorations.

When i was in the hunt for a nice W123 coupe he did put me in touch with various owners..
But I suspect Mark had already raised these peoples expectations of what the cars were worth. They all wanted around 2-3x what I saw their value to be.

I went and found myself a lovely example privately and to this day I think it was one of the best W123's around. I really cant figure out why I sold it.

If you want a more down to earth W123 specialist then the new club model captains Martyn & Susie Marrrocco are the people to speak to. They are doing my V8 conversion at the moment.

Apologies if it came across that I was stirring with my post above, not the intention at all.

Abbreviated version above. I'm not that ignorant that I didn't offer thanks for his largesse. Is that OK for you?

Thaanks for the reply - I just assumed you hung up because that's what you wrote … I consider someone hanging up the phone on me is just the rudest thing ever - that's all.

From my dealings I would agree he is a garrulous, enthusiastic fella! However, in my experience with some rather basic W123 body parts, he asks for more than the Main Dealers (and that's before postage), which is surprising and necessarily a deal-killer.

Did you make the purchase Jay? £42 (forty-two English pounds)!

Hi KSD, yes £42 does seem a lot of dough but I understand that Mark has been to great lengths here in the UK and in Germany for detail contained in his book.

I am contemplating getting an edition as I've had two W123s and loved both of them especially the second one purchased in 1984 brand new. As previously said by another poster, God knows why I sold them.
