Maybe my new car

Must say thanks to all that have helped out, it can be difficult when you dont really know what your looking for.

That website that diesal man quoted, states a car in best condition is worth £3080. It also states that you should adjust the value depending on whats not fitted as standard. Now I take it the value increases depending on whats been fitted. This has the leather, and those wheels oh and the black banana shaped things over the arches. Those wheels I know are not to everyones taste but they must have cost a packet plus they havnt been on the road for 1000 miles yet.

Only thing I can see really wrong with the car is the missing badge. Now I dont see this as being a big problem anyway really, I'm sure ebay have one. (Maybe even some kind of neon Max Power Style sign instead)

How much do these badges go for?

Im going seeing the car again tomorrow afternoon so if anyone can mention what to look for then I'll really appretiate it, I'll even get to test drive it :D cant wait as those pictures aint the best afterall, especially only being 2MP I knew I should have used 12MP. :D

Thanks again.

Hi mate ,

The wheels might have cost a lot, but overall they will devalue the car , as they are not OEM ....

If the leather is aftermarket (from a scrapper) then it may devalue it in the long run as it once again is not OEM....

When you go to see it, get us the VIN from the plate on the dash right under the windscreen , passenger side and we can look what options the car was specced with from new .... thats the best plan ...

£3k is for a minter , totally OEM with FMBSH , the one shown looks like it has had a knock or two , so isn't mint ....

A badge is about a tenner ....

I know what it's like to get all excited about a car and try and convince yourself that it's worth more, but be patient, and a better one will come along .....

Personally , if i bought it , i'd EBay the wheels straight away and buy a set of AMG with the proceeds

Good luck

I can't stress it enough :- GET THE VIN !!!

Howard go easy on me I'm totally new to this whole Mercedes lark. Seem as though it looks like im staying here for good, I think it would help for me to Introduce myself and what I intend in the 1st post of this thread. Can see this stretching a bit. :D

Just got back from test driving the car, and I must admit I'm very impressed. Looked over the car and the only thing I noticed was a small scratch on the back bumper. Apart from that its mint.

The gap in the front bumper and light is like someone mentioned the result of a bump. New front light fitted and front bumper re painted. Very minor bump really, just wondering if they have not lined up the light properly hence the gap?

The car has not been lowered and was topld he thinks this is the AMG suspension but unsure. The wheels are 18" but I suspect it should sit a little higher on standard suspention.

Looks like it came with AMG's from the factory , wonder where they've gone ? ;)

As I suspected, it should have had a set of genuine AMG 17" wheels fitted to it from new. From what you have said about the 'bump' and mis-alignment, and going on my gut instincts of the wear on the leather (82K miles?)/aftermarket wheels I'd be tempted to skip this one and keep looking.

That is my honest opinion and best of luck whatever you decide :)

Keep looking! They are 'common' (dare I say it) so you should have no trouble finding another one that fits the bill!

He sold the wheels to put those ones on it. £250 he sold them for .

I think I will be purchasing this one TBH, I dont really have time to keep scouring the land for a better example as I think will take quite some time.

i thought you had the wifes car there for a while .
It looks exactly like that but it is 97 though and manual but still has its amg wheels from the factory and they are 15inches with 205's. those wheels do it no good except you want to look like 50cent

You really could do better - I sold an immaculate '97/P C230K Sport (193bhp supercharged), with heated leather, air con, auto, met paint and ££££s in bills for £4K over a year ago.
That had 18" AMG staggered wheels with new Goodyear F1 tyres.

You can pick up a C36 for this much these days.

If you've already bought it I apologise, but I'm just trying to help out a prospective member :)

Have you HPI'd it at all?

Will

No havnt HPI checked it yet, will probably do it before I purchase it.

As for going finding another car, I dont have time. Not only that I have checked the Trader and ebay to find sod all but crap.

Wish i had the money to buy the first car i saw ..... ;)

Theres better ones out there for less money .....

Have you got a car at the moment ? if you have , then whats the rush ?

Failing that buy a cheapie for a couple hundred and keep searching ....

You'll regret it , i guarantee .... 2 weeks after you buy it, you'll see a much better car and think ' Bugger ' ....

I spy overspray towards the front of the wheel arch spat, same side as the huge front bumper gap Howard already pointed out.

The wheels would put me off straight away, far too boy racer ish in my opinion.

Hpi would not tell you if he has smashed it up and fixed it himself if he only had third party.
that panel gap is going to whistle as soon as you get on the motorway and could force the bonnet up at over 70mph.

I do have a car at the minute, and its on its last legs. He is going to give me 300 for my car which I would probably struggle getting any other way.

I know what your saying about waiting but I really like this car and am happy paying 3k on it. Just had another scout at ebay and yes there are cheaper c200s out there but with higer mileage and a lesser spec than this one. As for the gap i'll sort it out, as for ovespray, ill be getting it buffed up anyway and a polish.

oh come on dont give me that. Is the one in the pictures that bad?? I think not. I could spend weeks/months looking for a better one, and so far I've seen non better.

It's not about what you see, even though other posters here have already pointed out some rather worrying signs. It's about what you do not see and know.

Listen, it's a free country as far as I can tell. You can obviously do what you want. But is this the best approach to get the best possible car? Definitely not. Getting the right used car always takes some time, but it's time well spent.

Before everyone gets too down on this - it's an 81,000 mile car with FMBSH and leather interior. Minor knocks are not a big deal provided they have been well repaired and bumpers easily get scraped so a bit of spray to the corner of a bumper does not necessarily signify a big smash. Much more telling would be the view under the bonnet and behind the bumper.

There aren't that many well specced early C class cars around.

Provided the history in genuine and provided there are is no evidence of serious repairs or bad repairs I reckon it's just a matter of agreeing the value. Though I'm inclined to agree that £3k might be on the high side. And the wheels are a bit too shiny. But my point is I wouldn't necessarily just walk away - just because some people make choosing a car an art doesn't make this (his first seen) a bad one.

I must admit that I have bought the first car I have viewed in every case, although this is after weeks of trawling through ads, internet, magazines etc. I suppose I have just been lucky though. And taken someone more knowledgeable with me. I personally would avoid a car that looked like it had a been in a bump, minor or major, if at all possible but as you know the seller quite well you can make a justified decision.

Good Luck with whatever you decide!
