Maybe my new car

Thank god someone has come along and agreed with something Ive said. :) Seriously though I wasnt looking at buying the car at all just taking pics to sell it for him, and the car is clean as hell.

I know its had a bump cos he actually told me before I test drove it the other day, I didnt even get chance to mention the gap. It was a slow speed accident that needed a new light and bumper spraying didnt even break the bumper.

As for finding a better car for the money I'm still yet to see one. Looked in the autotrader tonught and there are non really at this value for the spec it as.

Thanks for all the comments even the ones that I don't agree with, it was the aim of the thread to get opinions off the people in the know.

But I think I can say it will be this one that I'm buying.

Good for you! Let's hope it works out ok and you get a good one, and don't forget some more pictures! :)

So its a pre-facelift Sport with facelift rear lights?

Having only ever run post-facelift W202 Sports, does the interior look right?

I'm sure my rear lights look like that too and mine's a pre facelift ('96)

Possible someones changed the lenses .... a cheap and very effective mod ...

My w124 is a pre facelift , and has the facelifted lights ...... because i bought them and swapped them ;)

Those tail lamps look like pre-facelift to me, they're too light-grey to be facelift.

They look like pre facelift lights to me. The early versions had orange indicators which were changed to red, which appears to be what this car has.
the next step was for darker tinted lights.

Does anyone have any links as to where I could purchase some items such as the facelift lights.

Ebay

Deffo pre-facelift lights, easy mod - make sure you dont loose a screw forever down the hole in the chassis.

Is that so when the engine is falling to bits and rattling like mad you can ignore it saying, "No problem, it's only the screw I lost down the chassis rail".;)

Nath69UK-At the end of the day it's your decision mate-we can only advise, BUT, be aware there are a lot of people on this forum whom are very knowledgeable rearding MB's (I know, they have helped me out on several occasions and have been very helpful). When you next see the car you need to check for any oil leaks from the head gasket, rust around the boot lock, arches and the doors, plus the usual checks on the steering, rattle or knocks from the engine and suspension. Most of all-Good Luck :)

Nath69.
If you're interested in this car go and look at some others anyway just o guage the condition of this one.
something you need to have a good look at on this one is the inner wing and the area around the rear of the n/s headlamp. The light has definateely been replaced and it looks like the bonnet landing pannel has been sprayed.

Check the colour match of the n/s front wing and the rest of the car as the only photo you show of that side looks to have slightly different paint on the front wing to the door.
In itself this isn't a problem but does reduce the value due to accident damage.

Hi Nathan.Obviously you have received lots of advice. here ....dont think that just because its a merc forum the advice you get is right ! Ok, so it has had a bump. So what. You would be lucky to find any car at that age that hadnt had a bump......... its no big deal !!!. As for the wheels, I think they look good. Just because they are not to everyone ones tastes on here does not mean they are bad ! ...and you are right they would have cost a big wedge ! Everyone has individual tatses. Notwithstanding this knowone on this forum has even viewed the car they are going on basic gut instincts..their only evidence is that it has had a bump and has wheels on that are not standard. Most people on this forum have mercedes with wheels on that are not standard !!!!

Buying any second hand car is a risk. You take precautions thats all you are going to be able to do...I mean for that sort of money you are not going to get a faultless car no matter what or who you buy off. Good luck my friend. If it feels right and you have done the basic checks go for it....:)

Cheers guys, the car is as good as mine now. I have looked around just out of curiosity and havn't seen anything in as good condition as this one, Pete I do actually think your the only other person here that thinks like me. Yeah buying a second hand car is risky, but I'd rather buy one off a friend who has had it 3 years and knows the cars solid than get one from autotrader that I know nothing about.

Put it this way, the cars up for £3000. Hes giving me £300 for my escort. So for £2700 I'm getting a P reg Merc with I'd say some interesting extras especially the AMG bits. The car is spotless no dents and perfect paintwork, there is no colour change from panel to panel. I also get the private plate with it. And then I've got them rims. Full MB service history, MOTs 81,000 miles, Receipts.

All in all I cant quite figure out how some people can say look around further, its expensive. I'm not saying the cars perfect but for what needs doing to it is hardly going to cost me anything anyway. At first I was un-aware of the accident it had, however like I said previous at the first availible chance the lad explained to me what had happened.

Thanks again guys, just have to sort some finances out and get the thing. :)

Cant wait.........

Cool- Make sure you post up some more pics in the gallery when you get her.

Hi Nath ,

Not being funny, but you came on and asked for advice , you got it , perhaps it wasn't what you wanted to hear , as it sounds to me like you had convinced yourself that this was the car for your before you even joined .....

Everyone is going to pick out the bad points, as these are what will cost you in the long run , they won't all be saying ' Oh what a lovely car ....' we can tell you that after you've bought it .....

Anyway , best of luck with the new car , i hope its all you expect !

Post some more pictures when you have it ...
