MB Brake Discs.

Last edited:
I've just had a phone-call from my MB indie to tell me that my composite discs have arrived from MB in Germany, and that the units excluding the stretch bolts' weigh in at 13.6 Kg per side.
Hope this is what you're after

that's very helpful ..

OEM non PP brakes are 15.6kgs (from ECP website)

what are the "stretch bolts"?

Stretch bolts are one time use only because they physically deform when the correct torque is applied, and this means they can't be re-used. I've come across them in engine applications but this is the first time I've seen them used for brakes. Enter the term in 'Google' and get the information from the engineers.

I don't have composite discs, but I managed to save £££ on getting my drilled and vented discs skimmed. Its an option I hadn't even considered, until a friend of mine had them done on his Porsche. Really good service. I recommend it to anyone.

My front discs are the composite type and have dropped from £882.00 to £617.70 which the dealer has suggested may be partly down to drop in the value of the Euro
is that the price for the pair or each disc? excluding or including VAT?

My E63 disks & pads have dropped from £1800 to £1305 - fitted - in the last three months......Euro my ar*e!

My indie says the calipers for PP cars are the same as standard cars, just discs and pads different.

PP calipers have different part numbers to standard so aren't the same.

That's fine so long as it's only scoring from previous pads you want sorted.

It'll sort the discs out for a new set of pads, but if the disk isn't well above minimum thickness, then you can't have them skimmed...

Hopefully the discs and pads for the SL63 with PP will come up on a decent offer soon so as to buy some when the inevitable occurs. Sods law comes into effect when you need them and no offer on the horizon.
