2009 C350 Estate Sport, V6 3.5L Petrol
Hi - I've recently purchased a used MB C350 Estate (2009) petrol 3.5l V6 with 17,000miles on the clock. I purchased it through a MB dealer. I'm going to get it serviced through them, however, they have tried to sell me a 'My Service Plan' where I pay a monthly cost of 31pounds for 36 months - which will include an annual service which will cover replacement of brake fluid, spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter and screenwash. As this is the first time i've owned a MB I wasn't sure if it was good value to sign up to one of these monthly options as opposed to just once a year paying them the full amount for the service.

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience of the 'My Service Plan' and also the standard cost for a service through MB if you don't take one of these plans out (i'm London based).

Also on a side note, I've heard that you're supposed to do a 'big service' when the car hits a certain mileage/age - just wondering if anyone knew what this is for a C350.

Thanks

I took this option with my new E220.

£30 a month to cover all servicing and normal wear items whilst retaining all MBFSH benefits including MOBILO

No brainer in my opinion.

Agree with LTD here - I like to budget,I do not like shocks - some people will say put the £30 a month in the bank until you need it,but it never works out like that ! - and when you get a service that includes a ATF change - you will appreciate that you took the Service Plan out.

So do they guarantee there will be no extras? and can you have work done as soon as you sign up or is there a qualifiying period?

Tony.

No, No, and Yes in that order.

It's a good deal. You're protected against price rises for the duration of the plan, so no nasty surprises. You CAN have a service soon after signing up, but you'll have to pay 3 months up front. Still way better than paying the full service price all in one go. The "extras" on your C350 will be painful if you don't have the plan (MB spark plugs are expensive) so it's particularly beneficial for your car. Don't hesitate. Get it. No difference to the quality of MB Service with or without the plan, just a significant financial saving with it (unless you get services done by an indie, which may or may not be so good).

I took out the service plan on my car.

I don't think it saves you much, especially compared to the deals many other manufacturers offer, but it does save you a bit of money.

If you do a search you should find other threads where people have worked out the figures.

When they sold me the ML quoted me £31 a month for a year per service. But I declined to say yes, as I had a month to decide.
I then phoned another MB dealer and asked to speak to the service department, and they said to the age and mileage of the vehicle the next service would include new brake fluid and fuel filters and would be at least £650.
No brainer then.

I would agree but unfortunately they do not do one for the Viano so I am stuck with paying the service bill. Every time it is serviced someone at the dealer says why don't I have a service plan and don't believe me when I say MB don't do one. I suppose it is because some Vianos clock up some high mileages. There were 3 on ebay recently only about 3 years old with 250,000 on the clock!

All,

Thanks for your help, it sounds like a no brainer then. I'll sing up to the deal. Thanks again for your advise.

It used to be 4 years (or around 50K miles) but they keep messing around with the ATF change.

It could be that your car has had all the major things done and the next 3 service might be fairly minor. Do you have the details of what's been done to the car so far? You can put the car's details in here Mercedes-Benz ESS and it'll show what's coming up.

I'm not a big fan of MB serviceplans (they ought to be more heavily discounted to reflect customers' committment) but being in London you've probably got less chance of being able to get a discount on PAYG servicing so it may well make sense.

That's strange, because they do offer service plans on vans:

You are right! Must be recent as the last time it was checked they didn't. Works out about £60 more on the year than if I just paid for the servicing.

I took the service plan on my 350, however, when I took it in they said that a ATF change had been missed even though it had been maintained by MB since new. They wanted to bill me an additional £350 to catch up my FMBSH. A compromise was reached......

My car had a B service yesterday, they done the service, updated my sat nav, changed a breather hose Mercedes had a recall on, let me borrow a loan car and valeted mine, plus gave me some advisories which were 2 new tyres and front brake pads

I will get the tyres and brake pads done myself as that will be cheaper but I feel the £31 per month is well worth it even if it's for budgeting.

I thought it a good idea as well but a two year plan would cost me £864 when I pay about £520 with an MB dealer for servicing. So unfortunately not really such a good deal.

Hi all,

Just signed up for a 3 year service plan £36 monthly, did not think that too bad as 2 of the services are a B. What surprised me though is before I went into to see about it I had about 2500 miles till next service was due, when I came out from signing up for the plan it changed to 30 days till next service due!! coincidence or not.

I had a 5 year service plan on our Vito, taken out in 2007. We did less mileage than I'd anticipated, so I don't think it saved us any money - only got an A service and a B service out of it.

Took one out on the c63 over three years saving would of save £241. Just had my 1st service then got rid of the car, they are transferring to the new car. Paid up front so I am not sure if the monthly has an interest charge.

Good deal in my book.

Definitely a conspiracy between your pen and your car...
