I've managed to get service records (photocopies of old invoices) from main dealerships, but only as far back as 2002. According to several service managers, records prior to this used M-B's old software, which is now archived and inaccessible. I've managed to do this by noting the dealer stamp in the service book, writing a letter with a very polite request to the service manager, including a SAE, and where necessary following it up with a phone call. It has usually produced positive results. I always follow up with a thank you phone call. It might be a bit long-winded and a bit old school, but in this day and age where everyone wants instant answers on tap, old school manners do seem still to work. It's simply a case of putting yourself in the place of the person who you are asking to provide this information for no reward. If it was you - how would you like to be treated?
