McAfee Total Prot. '07 10 in 1 won't load

I bought this from ebay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220091279674 as my year's subscription on my last 'bought on ebay' McAfee was up. The previous one worked fine, was registered with McA. for updates etc

I've tried installing it about 10 times to no avail. It gets to the point where the screen reads "The installation wizard is installing your McAfee programs. This might take a few minutes. Status: Uninstalling McAfee Spamkiller." & then stops. I went to bed last night leaving it to unistall away & nothing had changed by this a.m. I've shut down, restated & tried multiple times - still no joy.

I tried deleting the McAffe Spamkiller through Add/Remove but it stalls right at the end & doesn't seem to complete the process.

Can anyone please guide me on what to do?

must ... resist ... urge to tell .. what to really do with McAfee .....

Uninstall everything from the old version manually first:
http://www.wikihow.com/Uninstall-McAfee-Security-Center

Then reboot and reinstall.

Grrrrr ... McAfee .....

It was only £9 & even though I am cheaper than week old bread if you could suggest something else which might be better......

Single computer directly connected to the Internet or small home network PC:

Firewall - ZoneAlarm free version but paid for is better
Antivirus - AVG or Avast (both free fully functional versions)

You should also consider Spyware checkers
AdAware/Spybot S&D are good (and both free) also see the AVG link

All of them have very low memory overheads so you should see the same protection without noticable slowing.

I downloaded the McAfee removal tool & everything is working now.
