Anyone used this before?

It'll be used on an MK5 R32 as the paint is shocking and I want to try a good detail before a repaint.

My plan is to

Wash and dry
Clay bar
Ultimate compound
(maybe Swirl X)
Polish
Wax.

Any reviews on the compound? As ive seen some results that look very good after and some that look worse than when they started.

Everything will be done by hand btw.

Thanks

I've visited 2 high end body shops and not seen any Meguires products used in either! One uses Farecla and 3M paint correction and polish products, as a result of which I've invested in some 3M Perfect-it for my 968. It's not cheap - about £35/L - but it's very good. The cars I saw being worked on at the 2 body shops included Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche, Aston Martin, so they would know what they're doing!

In the past I have used Autoglym Bodyshop paint correcting fluids and hard polish - if you can get them they're very good, but I believe some or all 3 products are NLA, which is a shame.

BTW, doing a paint correct by hand will be damned hard work, your life will be a lot easier if you can borrow/acquire a dual action polisher and some suitable pads.

Out of interest, does the bottle show you what grit equivalent it is? The AG Bodyshop stuff I have, one is 1200 grit equiv. and the other 2000 grit equiv, the 3M Perfect-it is 3000 grit equiv. Some time in the future I'll be looking for replacements for the 1200 and 2000, as the AG stuff is, I believe, NLA.

It's ok... It's has less cut than the Megs 205 but leaves less dust when applied by machine.

I've used the Megs 105/205 combination with great results, so wouldn't write the brand off.

This chart might be useful: Autogeek Swirl Removers & Compounds Comparison Chart

I've seen videos by a well known detailer called Junkman. He uses 105/205 and the results were fantastic. As he says "technique over product every time!"

Borrow a DA or buy a DAS Pro and some hexlogic pads or be prepared to spend a very long time polishing very tough MB paint by hand.

Think of this and Ultimate Polish as slightly more user friendly versions of 105 and 205 for enthusiasts.

Will undoubtedly be in the Halfrauds 3 for 2...
