Hi I have a 1996 E300 Diesel Automatic, the immobiliser seems to be in trouble, I've the disc batteries and the fob isn't transmitting when viewed through a digital camera. Sadly the car isn't worth the expense of a new key in the hope it'll make things better again although it would be a great shame to scrap it. At first the red and green lights flashed, now none of that, the car will crank but not start and there's no fuel at the injection pump.

I've seen some threads where [rightly so I guess] where members are not keen to reveal how to disable the immobiliser in case it's a car thief in disguise trying to get this info. Rest assured I'm not and living on the Isle of Man car theft is an unwise profession as you'd not get past the port police!

The advantage if living here is that theres really no need for an immobiliser so it will be no loss.

So, please can anyone tell me firstly where will I find the immobiliser brain and what do I need to do to get my car running again?

Any advise would be appreciated

Have you checked inside the remote fob to see if the switch inside the case is undamaged.
Check that the remote batteries terminals are undamaged and making good contact with the 2 x 3 volt button batteries, CR2025.

There may be an immobiliser chip inside the remote fob, if it has become detached it might fall out when you open the case. It looks like the thing just below the Red lens in the picture below.

If you are talking about the factory ECU immobiliser and nothing add-on, then looking in the engine bay, looking down between the fuel filter and the inlet manifold you will see the diesel injection pump (IP), on the side of the IP is a back box with pipes and a wiring connector emanating from it. that is the fuel stop solenoid for the immobiliser. The electrical connector has 4 wires going to it, one of these is 12v live when immobiliser disabled.

But I can't remember which colour, I'll check my car wiring diagram this evening for you.

But basically give that 12v direct feed and if the engine starts you'll know its an immobiliser issue, if not its probably the crank sensor on the top RH of the bellhousing (looking into engine bay area from the front).
