Merc E Class Estate or Audi A6

Update....Car not available after deposit payment..!!!

I am facing a strange situation with a Merc main dealer as I paid deposit for a specific spec of new E Class Estate and now the dealer says there was a mix-up of inventory and the car I paid deposit is no more available and requesting me to accept same spec but different color, which I didn't like.!!! E-Class estates are no more custom made though limited number of factory configured new ones are available as new face-lifted model will be out soon.

I got a CARWOW match with dealer so the margin may be less in my case. Any one else had similar experience with Merc dealerships.? Is this really a mix-up or someone else agreed to pay more and they decided to sell car to them as margin for selling it to me is less..?? What are my options now..? Since limited stock and spec I wanted are bit rare and its Quarter end I might end up not having what I paid with others as well.

I am sure they will refund deposit but I might not be able to get same spec from other dealers either now. How to deal with dealership at this situation..? I already bought another Merc last year so its my second Merc order in last 6 months with same dealer.

Yip, as I think I mentioned before I ordered the new 9G in the May of 2014 for October delivery. By November nothing then I was told by the dealer, it could be February, or maybe April!!!!

So not surprised as I have nothing good to say about Merc dealers or Audi for that matter. Full blown argument with the sales girl that driving a manual SE 4dr multitronic would be the same as a new s- line avant s-tronic!?!

Nothing to do with that buddy. I really like the e class but it's not as nice to drive as the BMW and the Audi is way behind the others in terms of tech etc.

Subjective still, but all opinions are valid

Get the Merc.

If you accept that the E Class estate you want is now only available in cars in the dealer network, then you have to move quickly to secure the one that suits you best. Personally, colour was the last thing I would spec. but I understand it is important to others.
I have never bought a new car that has not been a physical stock car, better deals should be available:devil:
I have ordered many 'factory order' company cars, waited 6 months and really not been that bothered by the bells and whistles when they arrived.
Make sure you get the core car you want at the right price....and as you say...it is quarter end this week;):thumb:

Mactech's idea of a big fast car would probably have an old Mini Metro engine in it!! ;)
A 6R4 engine I imagine...

I was in the same situation you request quotes through CarWow and receive replies you then go to your dealership and ask for price match.

In the meantime the cars being quoted on are grabbed by someone else and as you cannot specify factory builds you are offered an alternative.

I am confused by the deposit though as I sat with the salesman who went through the options and once I agreed and paid the deposit the car is reserved.

I did get a substantial discount though so was a bit more flexible on colours and spec.

Speak with the dealership they would not want an unhappy customer and should be happy I would have thought to refund your deposit.

Of course this is only my take on things but hey that's what forums are for.

You pretty stuffed with E estate. There's virtually none left. I'd suggest that you accept a different colour or risk losing out completely

A 6R4 engine I imagine...

Once upon a time there was a V6 engine in Metro 6R4 rally car.
TWR bought the rights to that unit, changed 95% of the parts, fitted twin turbos and it became the engine for Jaguar Gp C cars for '89 and '90.
That engine was again completely redesigned in '90-'91 to make it suitable for a road car with about 99% new or modified parts.....but yes it does share a V6 basic layout with the engine that powers the XJ220;)......but then so does the engine in Lewis's current F1 Mercedes...

They managed to find exact spec and exterior color. But seats are in GREY (very light color) I want seats in BLACK. My kid and partner too dislike GREY.

Am I too picky...??

No I'm also not s fan of the light greys, mate had grey in a bmw and I felt like I was sitting in an elephant. [emoji208]

It's not that your being picky, I'd be the same. Every day you wait there are less and less of them though

You're only being too picky if you end up either having to make a bigger compromise than having grey seats, ie (a) you have to compromise on other options which are more important to you than seat colour, (b) you end up paying more than the current deal, or you have to buy a different make or model because of (a) and/or (b).

If it's otherwise the right spec, the deal is right, and there are no more available, then it may be worth compromising on interior colour. If buying pre-built but new, or secondhand, there will usually be some kind of compromise somewhere in the colour and specification. Specifying a new car yourself is the way to avoid that, but then that's usually more expensive.

Explain to the dealer that it's a compromise you didn't want to have to make and ask them to consider how they may sweeten the deal to offset that compromise. Perhaps a free service?

Interestingly we recently bought a car, which is in limited supply, and 95% of the interiors were black, and the rest were off-white. We really wanted grey, and were lucky that one became available after a few months of trying. The biggest comrpromise was that we had to pay more for it, but it was well worth it as the interior colour was more important for us.

Really? The OP is spending in the £33K, so looking at the 4 pot cars. Personally, I don't find there's much to choose between the bmw 5 series and the e-class in these versions for driving. The A6 was a lot harsher on its skinnier low profile tyres.

As for the A6 being behind in tech, it appeared the opposite to me. Granted, almost none of it is supplied as standard, but it's all there in the option list, and the when I bought my eclass estate in June 2014, it felt like I was going backwards with the satnav/command online system.

As mactech has said, apart from the obvious size differences, there's not much to choose from with all three, and it boils down to personal preference on exterior and interior looks.

cheers, Steve

If it's 4 pots then agree. Though if it is 4 pots I wouldn't bother. Walking is far faster and less tiring.

Where as if you can drive, you will find the 4-pot ample.

Anyway, Jardines did this too me and sold my petrol C W205 estate, so I ended up in a W212. The dealer (Jardines) frankly couldn't give a stuff (a recurring action from them sadly). Strangely the black interior would have been the deal breaker, the beige and grey look far more inviting.

All I'd say is hold out for what you want. If Mercedes cannot help, go elsewhere.

Don't be silly. Willy caving again.
