Over the moon!
just going to leave a few pictures for you to piece together what im working with!

My first 2.6 silky smooth 6 cylinder

Rare manual (these off manual mercedes keep finding me, first the w124 ce and now this)

full sportline interior

racked up some miles in it last night and didnt want to go to bed!

its good to be back

Looking good. Sportline chassis too? Ditch the alloys & fit 16V 15 hole one's, maybe ditch the boot spoiler too. What's the spec like?

full sportline everything. shocks, springs, steering box, arb, asd differential, steering wheel, knob full seats and then the sportline wheels with full size spare in the boot.

That the one off eBay that reappeared once or twice?

That's a nice one, you could make a weapon out of that.:bannana:

The first thought that crossed my mind.

I'll just leave these here....

Excellent. Non turbo for me please. I had a 2.6 myself (one of the best cars I ever owned and not because it was cheap), always regretting not fitting a bigger lump, even 3.0 M103.

I liked my 2.6 when I had it . I know it would be very easy to change the 2.6 to a 3.0 , either 12V or 24V .

I currently have a 190LE with the 1.8 and feel it underpowered , even compared to the 190E with the 2.0 I had a while back , so an upgrade might be on the cards later .

While a 2.3 M102 would be very easy to do , and an M103 not that much harder , I can't help but wondering whether an M117 would fit , and how easily , since I know where there's a 500 breaking ( not my old one ) . A 5 litre 190 would go quite decently , I would imagine :)

Just idle thinking at the moment .

I suspect the M117 would be a lot of work. I'd put a bigger six pot in but ideally you need a 2.6, the steering box on R/H/D 2.6's is relocated to allow the M103 to fit and also 2.6 has a bolt off front panel too and a better ratio diff.

Also a different lower panel to accommodate the bigger rad.

There is a stunning V8 conversion over on the 190 forum, I just cant seem to find it to post a link.

One of our members has fitted a 3.6 AMG block mated to a getrag dogleg box. a wonderfully quick and capable car by all accounts. The plan is to upgrade the ECU and maybe EFI to ring even more power from it.

I remember that he had a lot of trouble sorting a flywheel to mate the box to the engine. More on the electronic side of things than anything else. Flywheel crank trigger springs to mind.

Yes , I would just buy a 2.6 , even as a starting point for a bigger six cylinder , rather than modify the 1.8 to accept one , my thinking was the V8 is about the same length as a four and might be an easier fit in its place , converse as it might sound . Depends if the engine bay is wide enough and space for exhausts etc .

I think somebody over on the 190 forum did fit one , but I don't know how easy or hard it was . Obviously , brakes , suspension and the whole drivetrain would have to be done at the same time .

Still might be easier than fitting one of the newer type engines which would be a nightmare electronically .

I thought I remembered seeing one over there , I'll have a hunt around on the site .

This is just curiosity at the moment , despite the car generally being pretty nice , the small engine has some issues which let it down , so a swap could be on the cards .

The m117 is an easy swap in a 190, infact brabus did a few with a 5.0. If it's what you want, go for it.:thumb:

Jeremy should have the flywheel problem sorted now, I gave him a spare flywheel to take the crank trigger from to fit the m103 flywheel. Once he replaces the 2.8 ecu with proper efi, he should see 330hp out of the 3.6.

I think the car your thinking of is ben's m119 swap, basicly an r129 in a 190 shell.

The 190 has a wider engine bay than a w124, so a v8 fit's quite easily.

Good to know .

Going by the colour , that one started out as an LE as well :)

I will have to do something about the engine on the 190 LE as I'm getting oil contamination in the coolant ( but not the other way ) . Since I know CHG problems are common on the 1.8 , and it is underpowered anyway , I'll either look for a 2.3 to drop in or I might consider a more serious upgrade .

As already said , a pal up North has a 500SEL I already got parts off for my old one , so I know the engine and most of the bits to go with it are already there .

I knew the slam panel / radiator mounts were different on the 2.6 , but didn't know about the steering box , but would have looked for a 2.6 to start with if going for a bigger six cyl .

I'm just going to run the 1.8 until it gives out , it has been as it is since I got it and I'm sure why it was for sale , but hasn't got any worse . I don't see any point in spending anything on that engine though when swapping it out would be more beneficial .Again , I know where there's a 2.0 locally , but the improvement would be marginal .

My Father had the 190E 2.6 Sportline straight out of the factory back in 1991 and it was a stunning car inside and out

Derek,
My 190E is fitted with a 2.3 from a W124 and it hops along pretty well.

It was also previously a 1.8 like yours. It is an auto but I would say it could now do with slightly higher gearing.
