Mercedes aware of the problem?

I was talking to a Mercedes-Benz Owners' Association official last friday and he said that Mercedes have had problems with the steering on the E320 petrol (W211).

Can anyone enlighten me further on this please.

What would be so special about the 320 petrol?

I subscribe to a forum that has a large number of 211 owners and this is the first I have heard of this 'problem'

I believe the 320 petrol only has parameter steering as an option.

Can you supply more details?

Steering

Yes it has parameter steering.

From new the car had a steering wobble at 60mph. The dealer has replaced the pump, replaced and tightened the steering rack. Now I am left with steering which is hard and does not turn in a silky smooth way. Also, it does not self centre properly.

I simply would not accept the car if it is not perfect. Your vehicle sounds far from this and as such, it is not acceptable.

Have you test driven another E-class with parameter steering? Your vehicle should handle\steer in exactly the same manner.
