I turned seventeen on February, getting my driving license in March. I was fortunate enough to be allowed to drive my parents VW Polo for a while, but it had been my dream to buy a Mercedes go a long time. I had been working in my three previous summer holidays to save up enough money.

Recently I started the search and while I looked at other I just fell in love with the e280View attachment 165864 - the way it drives, the specification, the history, etc… Anyway I am now the owner of the beautiful car. Fortunately I live in Jersey so insurance for a seventeen year old isn’t too high and my parents are on the insurance as well.

I was interested in knowing whether there was anything I needed to be aware of on the car as its 17th service is booked for February next year, and I want to get any preventative servicing done.

I am also planning to go on a large trip through France next year and need a set off roof bars - if anyone has any originals or suggestions to get a set that would be appreciated.

I look forward to hearing any responses - I’m a new member!

William.

Welcome!

An unusual (but excellent) choice of first car 👌

Depending on history it may need a transmission fluid change if not previously carried out or if it was some time ago.
With any car of that age the general condition underneath should be checked for corrosion, common areas are brake pipes and rear subframed, especially in a coastal environment.

You will find a huge knowledge base here so feel free to ask questions!

Enjoy!

Thank you - the transmission fluid doesn’t appear to be on any of the invoices but it’s only done 37000 miles - not sure if that changes anything.

That's a cracker of a first car.

With low mileage like that, check the condition of the tyres.

They will crack and deteriorate due to age if not actual wear out of tread. If they are old some new tyres (cheapish as you'll be on 16 or 17 inch wheels?) will make the ride even better - certainly before you go off the island and get some speed into them.

As to needing a roof box for a road trip, you do know how much you can get in an e class estate don't you.....!

Welcome, lovely car , especially the colour and interior.
It should have had a change of filter and gearbox oil every 5years or 37500 miles if my memory is correct. I had a E320 cdi when we lived in Jersey so you will most definitely need to check the age and condition of the tyres before you get it above 40 mph , especially fully loaded.

Thanks I love the car. The tires were done by the just last year - a full set of Pirelli tires which I was pleased to see.

With the roof bars, it was more I wanted to put a bike on the roof - I certainly don’t need any more space for luggage. 😆

Thank you - fortunately the previous owner had just changed them before I brought it!
