Mercedes e220cdi fuel efficiency at 32mpg combined!

Hi All

I have recently purchased an e220cdi avantgarde on a 55 plate about a month ago thinking the efficiency on these were good.

I have now filled up the tank to the brim about 4 times with everytime the average consumption ranging from 32-35mpg. This has largely been motorway driving. Around town and on short trips, the computer has shown the consumption to be about 22-25mpg.

The on board computer seems relatively accurate however am concerned that I may have bought a faulty vehicle.

The car has been regularly serviced by Mercedes (3 services so far) and has only done 32,000 miles. My mechanic friend advised me to change the oil filter, air filter and oil which I did yet still havent had any luck with an increase in fuel efficiency.

Can anyone advise me what could be the problem?

Thanks

What does the computer say for the total consumption? Cycle through the page until you see 'since reset' or words to that effect.

Unless of course you reset it when you bought the car.

Brimming it the way you have done is the most accurate method of calculating fuel consumption. If the overall position is 32-35 mpg this seems low unless a significant proportion was around town. I see 28 plus around town and have hit 50 on a long run. My average is about 35, in a 320CDI.

I reset the "since reset" reading when I purchased the car however this was showing 31.9mpg.

I filled the car up to the brim over the weekend and did a 150 mile round trip to leicester and back. This was approximately 120 miles on a motorway doing a steady 70-80mph and about 30 miles around town. Just went a re-fulled and the average came out at 32.1mpg.

Not good. That calculates as a rate of less than 40 mpg on the motorway bit.
