Mercedes E350 Sports Shock Absorbers?

Hi

I was wondering if someone can help please?

I recently took my car into a Mercedes Indy and he told me one of my front Shock Absorber is slightly leaking (I inspected the shock - it looked damp, nothing serious - clearly needs replacing though).

I completely trust my Merc Indy - used his services for years on my cars.

Anyway - I recently received a quote back from Indy which was around £580 plus vat per shock absorber, plus fitting!! - part sourced directly from Merc

I was a little baffled by the cost - he explained my Merc E350 Sport Coupe CDI (01/09 Plate) has the sports package which includes the Monroe Electronic Damper Shock Absorber (Merc Part Codes for Front Left and Right Shock Absorber is - A2073231100 and A2073231200)

My question -

1. Can I install an aftermarket Shock Absorber instead of the Merc part? If so, which?
2. Has anyone installed any other brand of Shock Absorber (non Merc) which is compatible with Merc Sports Package (Dynamic Stability / Sport Button in dash) on a Merc E350 CDI Sport Coupe

Unfortunately I don't think there is an aftermarket equivalent from another manufacturer. If you are just replacing one I would go with the MERCEDES PART in this instance.
