Hi everyone
I’m after a little bit of advice from any of you guys.
I bought our car from down south, and when we got it it had two Contis on the left and 2 Pirelli’s on the right. So we immediatley bought two contis MO approved tyres on her to get her back to standard. When we asked why this was like this on the car the owner said she had a double blow out on a country road and had to be recovered. Obviously she hit something hard.
Any way the car is a low mileage (15k) 2018 GLE 350d. I have a horrible vibration from around 60mph onwards. The easiest way to describe it is, it’s like driving over cats eyes in the road without the noise. You can feel the vibration through the car, steering wheel and sometimes on the accelerator pedal.
Now this is what I’ve done to try and solve but with no luck.
1- removed all alloys. (265/40/21) had all of them professionally stripped, repainted and balanced including checking for buckles. Thanks to The Wheel specialist in Leeds the now look great!
2- had the original l conti tyres removed and used same specialist to fit brand new Pirelli MO approved winter scorpions. Car drove like a new car, quieter and felt overall better, yet vibration remanined. Actually dropped 15db in noise at
3- had a hunter 4 wheel suspension checkup and wheel alignment. Nothing found and all good.
4- done the neutral test at 70mph and rev and brake. Vibration Remains constant throughout.

What do any of you guys recommend I try next?
Thanks in advance

Do you notice the vibration under acceleration or just cruising?

Hi
The vibration is always there. The car can be cruising, accelerating, breaking, cruising in neutral, up hill or down hill.
It’s always there 60mph onwards.

Nothing at all, that’s the first thing I thought is a warped rotor, but looking at its 2 years old and only 16k on clock and doesn’t vibrate when braking. I don’t think it’s that

Where do you feel the vibration most clearly, through the accelerator pedal, brake pedal, steering wheel, seat or something else? Likewise do you not feel it through any of those?

If you hard accelerate from say 30mph to 80mph, as soon as you pass 60-65 mph you feel an instant vibration through the steering wheel, and the vibration remains in place constant. It’s like driving over cats eyes.
I’m running 32 psi in the cars tyres. Only me in the car. That’s what the fuel cap says to set the car or 220kpa.

My next guess would be a Drive shaft CVJ. Can you identify which direction the vibration comes from, or at least front/back?

Hi there
Ive just purchased a 2016GLE 250 26k with 21“ Factory AMG wheels.
These have 4x Pirelli P Zeros MO fitted.
I have a similar vibration problem as the OP.
Its worse on some roads more than others but it’s always there at some point and at various speeds but more pronounced 50-70mph feeling it through the chassis and accelerator pedal rather than the usual steering wheel.
It almost feels as if the rear end is too lively(if that makes sense).
It has airmatic suspension and the vibration is still there whether in comfort or sport mode.
May not have any bearing but the service before purchase including discs and pads all round.
I also have had the balancing and tracking checked and all was as it should be and tyres all good.
I have the rear entertainment system fitted aswell and when nobody is in the passenger seat the vibration/noise between the headrest and the rear screen is unacceptable-I’ve even had to put a cut down sponge between them to stop the noise.
It is booked into Mercedes 15/01/21 to have this looked at aswell as my stop/start function as this is intermittent 😠😠
Any other ideas as to the source would be appreciated as I don’t want to be fobbed off with an unacceptable/expensive “solution” ...
I must admit I expected a trouble free experience from such a low mileage 30k vehicle from Mercedes but I guess I’ve been a bit naive....
I will post my undoubted delightful Dealership experience in due course!!!

It could be one of many things. Best have it inspected as you are.

Where did you buy it from, how long have you had it, and how many miles have you done?

Bought it from MB Cambridge end of November 26k.
Just about to hit 30K.
Got the balancing and tracking done out of my own pocket as i thought it would be a simple solution.
Its under MB warranty so hope it’ll get sorted as apart from this vibration I love the vehicle-best Mercedes I’ve owned👍👍

I’m sure it will be sorted then. Is it MB Cambridge that’s inspecting it?

Also, regarding stop start, it could be that your battery is ageing, but I suspect it’s more likely to be a combination of cold weather (winter), short journeys (lockdown), less use (Christmas), and having lights/heater/aircon running almost every time you use it. At this time of year someone reports it everyday.

Given it’s under warranty and recently purchased, push for a new battery, but even if they wonky do that I suspect it will kick in after some longer trips, in warmer weather. Or get a battery conditioner to keep the battery in good health whilst the car is not in regular use.

Yeah taking it back to Cambridge MB..
Agreed I dont know the previous owners habits but judging by the optional extras it was probably used for school runs and short journeys so the battery could‘ve took a beating..
Will post results. Good or bad 👍

If you have a way of charging at home, a battery conditioner will either revive your existing battery, or keep your replacement battery fresh.

The CTEK MX5.0 comes highly regarded and is often available from Amazon for £70.
