I’m suprised I can’t find a thread on Mercedes’ letters.

My C300 letters have annoyingly got some MF material stuck in them and whatever I try am struggling to remove!

Ended up scratching bit of paintwork, so have stopped trying to remove the material.

I was thinking of removing the C300 letters entirely and replacing, has anyone done this, any tips, or do Mercedes’ do for you and at what price?

I will have to polish out any scratches after doing / repairing ones I already made 😑

I found some Mercedes’ C300 letters on eBay, anyone used non OEM (Silver Chrome C300 Car Letter Number Rear Boot Badge Emblem For Mercedes Benz | eBay)

Remove the letters/numbers, completely, looks much better, and as a bonus easier to clean. :) 👍

If your car is top of the range, remove the letters.

If it's bottom of the range, leave them as there's no point in pretending!!!

Just my view.

And that of many wealthy Germans back in the 60s and 70s who'd ALWAYS remove 6.3 or 6.9 from the back of their cars. Very vulgar. And also attracts attention when you're racing, on a Friday evening, down the Autobahn from Frankfurt towards your Swiss bank in Basel.

Would that we all had that problem!!!

Perhaps if you searched on badge removal or replacement? "Mercedes letters" etc is rather nonspecific.

Removal is usually very easy, some people use fine nylon such as fishing line to gently work through the adhesive or use a heat gun to soften it. Any remaining adhesive can be removed by a cloth with a little petrol on it or sometimes WD40 will soften snd remove deposits.

You can buy replacement badges direct from MB I bought the c63 and AMG badges for mine BUT they aren't cheap

How much did they charge, I am debating just using the dental floss, hair dryer and perhaps that drill attachment shared below! Also some tar & glue remover chemical

I am debating this, part of me likes to distinguish between C200 etc, but also understand that it is easier to clean and perhaps neater look!

I think they were around the £120 mark

Normal badges I agree I bought a fake AMG and stuck it on my dads c220d 😀 but the c63 and original AMG are curved to follow the boot line fake 1s are straight and stand out a mile

😳 amazing price!
And not in a good way.
MB taking the biscuit there
Just got quote from MB

£36+VAT for initials C300 and £80 max labour charge = with some negotiating £91.20 all in to replace 4 chrome letters 😆

No need to make a meal of removing badges, some fishing braid and tar remover are all you need. VW used a heat gun to remove badges on a new CC I bought a good few years ago and managed to crack both rear light clusters.
