This is a preliminary post to see how many people on the forum would be interested in doing a track day

I'm not sure how many track day regulars and track day virgins use this forum, but what I had in mind was a day oriented towards Mercedes drivers and towards track day virgins and beginners. Safety, tuition, etiquette and high driving standards would be the aims of the day

Personally I'd like to get all the people who are wary of doing track days - for whatever reason - to come on a day, enjoy it and learn from it

I would expect the day to be on an airfield, not a racing circuit, to be a weekend, all day event and to cost less than £150 per car with multiple drivers allowed. Any properly serviced car would be suitable and I wouldn't expect it to be hard on brakes and tyres unless you choose to make it that way

If enough people commit I am sure we can arrange a day dedicated to us. I'm not a track day organiser but would locate one who I know would be suitable and who would accommodate us. I'm not an instructor but I'd be happy to help people get comfortable on a track

Please either post here or email me at [email protected]

Yep, I'm interested.

There was someone asking a week or so ago if there were any SLK track days around. This would be right up their street.

[EDIT: Goodwood's quite a nice cicuit, if they'll have us. Some interesting cambers on some of the bends ...]

Interested.....

Hi there, yes I would be interested, depending on location of course, either to take part or just to watch.

Thanks, Bill.

Mmm would love to visit a trackday of some sorts, along meeting the people on here. I'd be a spectator though that's all.

Being I imagine one of the few people who has attempted a quick lap around Snetterton in a W210 E class, I won't be trying again.

It would be difficult to imagine a car less suited to a race circuit, understeer was absolutely alarming.

Andy_Cyp is the man to ask about taking the car onto the track, hes done a few laps at silverstone and was excellent entertainment to watch !!

Interested :D

Which, IMHO, is exactly why everyone should do track days. If a car is a resolute understeerer (and most are nowadays) the driver needs to understand the reasons why it understeers and to be able to react correctly when it occurs. Silverstone would tend to magnify the effect as it's big, flat and fast so corner entry speeds are very high

I wouldn't go anywhere near Goodwood for a beginners track day as it's difficult to learn, too fast and there's no run-off

Nick, not wishing to crash on your thread, but I've been looking into another event for the club, this time at Elvington Airfield, near York. Was hoping to do a skidpan, but they only do FWD cars  ; was offered this though:

Thank you for your enquiry. Below is a day we provide designed with car owners clubs in mind it always goes down a treat – wondered if your members might be interested?

The day involves participants driving their own cars and alternating between two activities;

1) A Performance Driving course around our 1.6 mile circuit with a race school instructor sitting along side in their cars.

2) An Autotest sprint which is timed to the split second and set out on our huge handling pad using small traffic cones.

The day starts at 9am and finishes at 4pm and is rounded off with a Trophy being awarded for the fastest driver/car on the Autotest Sprint. We also have a joke prize for anyone who did anything notable during the day! The Autotest sprint results could then be posted on your web site or in a club magazine.

The cost of the day is just £99 per driver for 12 drivers - the format/price and numbers for the day can be adjusted to suit requirements. I have attached a sheet with more information on the experience day.

Worth considering, maybe?

Sounds excellent

That sounds excellent! £99 a head is a good price for a day anywhere and assuming the instruction is good it should be good value. In some ways this kind of day might be better for beginners than a track day

There's a skidpan at Goodwood if anyone's interested in that

I did karting recently (and for the first time) in Docklands on a tight and very wet outdoor track. It was superb and everyone got a lot out of it. It's another thing to look at for 2006!

We did a skidpan at Castle Combe in '04 and karting, at Castle Combe in Feb this year. I was going to organise a karting event at Buckmore Park for the tail end of this year, but there wasn't enough interest :( .

Be great if there was lots of interest in something like this though :)

mite be up for it, if i havent managed to sell the car before it happens...

Wouldn't mind coming as a spectator.... i really don't think the whale is up to a track day , shes a lover not a fighter .....

Have driven Goodwood a few times and i agree , it is a very nice circuit, and yes it is fast, but there is gravel run off at the worst points..... with good food and facilities (if a tad expensive)

Good plan though :bannana:

its a long story.........but.......................................here is not the place...

but the car is too good and needs somebody to use it for its intended purpose and not just to shove my neighbours heads in it! I have moved on, the car needs a newer, happier home. its gonna be hard but it has to go.
