Hello everyone,

Recentely I have this problem with heating system, it started a week ago when my car was stationary for three days.

Sometime when I start the engine heating work perfectly.

But more often the heating doesn't work at all , but when I drive it for two or three miles , it start working. Some time it doesn't work at all.

If I turn the start the engine and put the FRONT button on , there is some thing in dashboard which try to work , I mean there is noise but heating fan doesn't throw any heat at wind screen.

My seat heating are working perfectly on all seats. Rear screen heating also working well.

So question is , what make heating to come on late?

If any of you can share your experience so to solve this problem will be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

In cold weather the heater fan will not run at full speed intill the water has reached a certain temperature.

It's S320 of 2008.

So if you are right , then why it work 5AM when temp was -1 C this morning and when I came at my work place and start it after two hours. Doesn't work at all.

I find something while googling.

In certain Mercedes models there may be a problem with the blower, which does not react instantly after either the air conditioning or heating system have been engaged. In many cases they will eventually engage, however randomly, or while driving on a bumpy surface.*The Mercedes types that are involved are from the CL (W216 500, 600 and CL63) and S class (W221 500, 600, S63 AMG, S65 AMG and 550 4M). Mercedes officially claims that in most cases this particular problem is not caused by the electronic control system but by the blower itself.*In order to diagnose the problem, please proceed as follows:*

1. If you have the option to read error codes, check for error code 9516. If this one appears, there may be something wrong with the blower control unit, requiring it to be checked.*2. If the control unit seems to be working properly however, remove the dashboard's lower cover panel on passenger side.*

3. Now switch the blower on. If this doesn't engage, use your hand and hit the bottom side of the blower housing (see ill.). Should the blower react and engage now, it's the blower that causes the problem. In this case the blower unit should be replaced completely.*

4. If however the blower does not react, and error code 9516 does not appear either, then only the blower motor needs replacement.*The blower motor has part number A2218200514. According to Mercedes, diagnosing and fixing the problem shouldn't take more than 1.5 hours

Problem solved.

I TURN on the heating. Hit the lower part of dash board on passenger side.

BINGO !
It's working again.

So the problem is the blower, I hope I will find a new one somewhere and replace it.

Please try this formula before spending ££££££.

ADMIN: Can you please add at the end of the title (Solved) so other user can also take advantage of the post.

Hi,
did you changed the blower? Is is working fine now?
My car (w216) has the same problem since couple of days

mine does this but only after I have washed it. Checked all the drain holes nothing blocked.

Did you get this sorted as mine doing it a bit more often now, giving it a hard thump in passenger footwell works but want it sorted. don't want to buy blower if it is the regulator and vice a versa.

mine still doing this. Washed it yesterday and playing up again. Thinking of pulling it out of the easter weekend. Does anyone know if this is easy to do. Can see motor but not sure which screws hold it in. If anyone got a diagram that would be great. Seems to get stuck, ok first start of day but if I turn car off then start it again have to give it a whack to make it kick in. Once it working will work all day until its turned off. Might just need a clean or is that me looking through rose tinted glasses

I am sorry i didn't check this thread since my problem was solved, which was selfish. I am sorry for that.

I actually end up taking out blower motor which is where the combination or compartment filter is. I cleaned it well and use wd40 to grease it to work smoothly, it worked like a dream since last winter.

I am having a little difficulty in recent rainy days if i dont start my car for days, but when ever i feel the blower has problem i run the fan on full speed. Which is 7 on my w221. So when the car warmup the blower is already settle until next time lolz.

Just one thing if you have this issue. Try not to use windscreen hot air switch, which you use to de-frost windscreen.

It actually warmup the control module in blower and the heating system wont work until you stop the car for a while and start up again. Its my personal experience, i might be wrong.

Good luck to all those who are having problem in these rainy days.

God bless Britain and take this rain away for another 6 months atleast :(

Good Evening and Merry Christmas,

I was hoping someone could point me to a document telling me how to get to the blower motor in my w221 which is completely dead doesn't even respond to being whacked.

I want to try and remove it and maybe go buy a new one from dealership tomorrow if they are open.

Can someone give me some guidance on how to get to it and remove it documents/diagrams/videos?

Also how many interior cabin air filters does this car have and is it worth changing these?

Thanks

Fas
