I cannot believe the phone call i had tonight with my father in law, around 12 years ago he bought a Approved used 2012 w204 c200 from Colchester Mercedes.

The car has always had a service plan with them "Colchester Mercedes" from day one, This car is totally immaculate and in that 10 years has covered a total of 16,000 miles!

Current ,mileage is 26,700

It failed its mot for the very 1st time on a HOLE in the rear subframe, with Mercedes Colchester quoting a Bill in excess of £2,000 for replacement.
There was a mild suggestion of some MB contribution towards replacement but seriously!! There was zero corrosion anywhere mentioned on last years MOT and now a substatial hole has apeared.

The car has always been looked after by them on time everytime and always had Mercedes parts fitted, These cars i thought came with a 30 year corrosion waranty didnt they?
Anyway just thought id share his story.

Seriously if you saw this car you'd think it was brand new, unbelievable and the fact its always lived in a garage!

another Mercedes Achilles heel
I bought a 2009 C class the end of last year and found out it had a new subframe fitted months before, it was clean tidy car but not mint and didn't have a full Mercedes service history. so push for a new one FOC.

It does depend on the particular dealer, one might do it foc, when another won’t. 🤬

Absolutely mental that they aren’t doing this FOC, it nearly put me off getting a MB with this potential subframe issue but I’ve taken the risk with a 2012 E250 on 59k miles, this story doesn’t fill me with confidence!
Always garaged too, unbelievable

They corode from the inside whilst the outside looks fine...so there may well have been no sign last time. So when Mercedes do pay it's under their goodwill scheme.....not their body shell perforation war

The 30 year warranty is for the body shell only...not bolt on frames.... and even then the corrosion has to come through from the inside.

if you do have to pay two grand is mad. Where this is a common issue there are loads of pattern ones available for a fraction of that and a good indi will only charge a few hours to fit it. Just give it a good coat of paint first!

Tbh, I’d be tempted to do mine myself, if it was needed, at least I know it would be done properly and I could rust proof it before fitting, but luckily, MB gave it a clean bill of health last September, after which, cleaned it out and rust proofed it, be for covering the open ends.

I've noticed that recently: all eBay links pasted on here come up with the "Pardon our interruption..." thingy.

All the links on this forum say the same thing "Pardon our interruption" ....started a few weeks back....they still work when you click on them. Same thing on the ALFA forum.

From Google...

The "Pardon Our Interruption" message on eBay typically appears when the site suspects your browser activity is robotic or automated, potentially due to fast browsing, JavaScript issues, or third-party plugins.

Here's a breakdown of the issue and potential solutions:

Why it happens:
  • Bot Detection: eBay's system might flag your browsing as robotic or automated due to the speed at which you're moving through the site, or because of the way your browser is configured.
  • JavaScript Issues: If JavaScript is disabled in your browser or if a third-party plugin is interfering with it, eBay might not function correctly and display the "Pardon Our Interruption" message.
  • VPN usage: If you are using a VPN, try accessing eBay without the use of a VPN

I have a 2014 E250 cabriolet and after reading all these posts about subframes, I daren’t look at it.
I had a quick glimpse last year and seemed ok, so fingers crossed.
But how hard is it to DIY change, that EBay link is very cheap and comes with all the bushes.
