I need some advise from someone in the know,

After having a broken down w203 for the last 2 weeks, this morning a mobile auto electricition diagnoised it with a faulty ESI? (the ignition computer)

He said this is fairly common but not cheap and made a phone call to a friend of his who works for a Merc commercial dealer.
The car reg was ran through the computer and reveled as having full Star history (grade A) thus being covered by Merc breakdown and against faulty parts (not consumables) for the life time of the car (unless it is serviced elsewhere or missed) this currently entitles me to Mercedes warrenty to 81,000 miles apparently, car is currently on 76,000

Can anyone confirm if this information is correct? I called merc and they told me i was covered by breakdown but that was all (he told me they would say that) but apparently as soon as you mention that you will speak directly to Mercedes UK any dealer will automaticly do the work before any action is taken against them

Anyone know anything about this at all

Surely warrenty is limited to 3 years/100k miles, your vehicle appears to be 9 years old. You may be eligable for Mobilo but thats all.

you have warranty of a vehicle for 3years from registration date. After that unless you have a parts warranty meaning you have already replaced the same part within twelve months then there is nothing. mercedes have the option to use goodwill but it is very rare. you will have to buy an EIS and a green key and get it coded in at a mercedes dealer.Roughly £350 to £500, cant remember off the top of my head. what your friend is on about is as long as you have servicing carried out at fixed intervals at a mercedes dealer you have mobilo breakdown cover in europe by mercedes. There is no action you can take against mercedes its a faulty part it happens. it would be different if it was a safety item i.e an esp unit. So im afraid you'll have to pay for the repair work. There is no such thing as star history, and warranty isn't limited ot mileage
hopes this helps

Sounds to me like the commercial bloke perhaps know his way around, and the cut off for MB Goodwill. I think it's unlikely that anyone here can directly help, unless we've the same problem at the same age etc.

It may be a case of taking the risk, I fear or taking it to an indie with STAR and accepting that you will have to pay.

while on the phone to Merc i asked them how much i was looking at if i was to pay, they priced the parts at £290 + 1hrs labour + VAT

the price itself priced from an independant place is £158, so straight away Star has priced at double.

Im going to try going to the dealership in person and presenting them with the information i have, i will revert back with results

They keep changing the scope of Mobilo, but it currently says:

"If your Mercedes-Benz can no longer be driven due to a breakdown or a minor mishap, we and our partners are here to assist you. If the required repair is a minor one, and can be completed at the roadside, Mercedes-Benz will cover the cost of labour and small parts. This excludes the cost of batteries (unless within the warranty period) / tyres / keys / fluids."

I don't know what would consitute a "small part" but an EIS certainly wouldn't be that, and is not a repair that would be done at the roadside.

There are some forum members with strong opinions about the advantages of Mobilo but really it's just a way of keeping you within the official MB network. That suits some people, but it's not the cheapest way of looking after an older car.

What is "Star" you refer to?

Seems he refers to Mercedes Benz as Star.
