Michelin vs Mercedes - who is right?

I was looking at the Michelin website today and whilst I didn't find what I was looking for I did notice that Michelin advised the following tyre pressures for my car (W204 C220 CDI estate with 205 55 R16 91V tyres). Front 30.5 psi (33.4 psi for motorway driving). Rear 33.4 psi (40.6 psi for motorway driving).

This conflicts with the information in my fuel filler cap which states the pressure as 36 psi front and rear unless laden in which case the rear should go up to 45 psi.

Who is right?

Never known any rear wheel drive car to run the same pressure on the rear as the front so as much as I dislike the French Michelin look to be correct

Those MB spec'd pressures look like fuel efficiency ratings.

Exactly right. They are whacking up the pressures in order to be able to claim improved consumption/emission figures. Unless you want to ruin the ride, Michelin are right.

I think you may have read that wrong dibblodocus., or you have a different filler cap to my 2011 W204.

Inside mine it gives pressures of 32 psi for 205 tyres, but 36 psi for 195 tyres. higher of course for fully laden.

Incidentally I have no ride issues at 36psi.

AFAIK yes - think these early labels covered all tyre sizes fitted at that time.

It must be a different filler cap. See photo below. The car is a 2010 (60 plate) C220 CDI BlueEfficiency Estate Executive SE, bog standard spec apart from Artico. Wheels are the standard 'Pritix' alloys which are 205/55 R16. As you can see it suggests 36psi front and rear.

It in fact has Pirelli Sottozero winter tyres on it at the moment, not Michelins, and I run it at 36 psi but I may try lowering the pressures a bit and see how it feels. As an aside, this winter I have Sottozero Series 1. Not as good as the Sottozero Series 2 which I had before, but a whole world better than summer tyres when it gets cold.....Michelins going on in April, or possibly Continentals.

Sorry - here is the photo of my filler cap. Link didn't work.

I think the 'Blue Efficiency' bit is the key. My filler cap says 32 front 38 rear whereas the non Blue Efficiency version from the same year is 29 all round.

Maybe as rhud suggests mine is different as blue efficiency.
I will try and upload a pic of mine if not too wet tomorrow.

Yeah and you have one merc dealer in a group suggest a pressure. Have it services at one of their other sites who must work on a lower pressure. Guess what tyre pressure warning, the stupid sods didn't reset.

One stop to check in the rain...merc service strikes again
