May be able to get an A3 with some canny negotiating. there's a 55 plate 2.0TDi DSG fastback up near me for £7995 .

Don't do it, terrible, terrible car!!

How dAudi managed to get the car to both wallow round corners and crash over the slightest bump in the road is an engineering marvel, albeit a **** one.

Love the look of them and enjoyed mine for about a week but then you start to notice just how **** they are!!
It was soon sold.

Also those that say space it tight have not driven one, they are as big as a 3 series, C class on the inside
What? As much room inside as a C-Class? I have driven one (and that's why I say they're good to drive) but while it has reasonable room in the front, the rear is cramped and the boot only marginally bigger than the MINI's.

Yeah was on babybmw.net, I did a pictorial on fitting a GPStar flip up nav system on there.
Nav install for a more OEM look.

You are right, you need to budget £300 to ditch the run flats for the 1er or for the mini.

With or without the runflats?

The boot has loads of usable space. It is really deep, we got three suitcases in it with the parcel shelf on, I can only just get 3 suitcases in the 3 series estate and get the load cover over them.
Plus the dog can fit in there with loads of room, we often took our dog, a Weimeraner, and my wifes mum's Rotweiller to the coast in it and they fit a treat cause of the depth.
The mini boot is a joke, you can't even get a weeks shopping in it, let alone 3 weeks worth of luggage for the family.

The back seats have the same room as a 3 series, or if it is any less then it is too small to tell, and definitely more room than the S4 Avant we had, although so did the A3.

There seems to be some good prices on C Coupes as well, I would definitely consider one of them over an A3.
There are also some GTi's changing hands for £7k now without galactic miles on them.

I'd still take a 130i over a GTi golf. Much more power, better handling (RWD) etc.

An A3 3.2 Quattro or 2.0TDi quattro still must be okay, surely better than a mini?

Yeah so would I, but don't think a 130i is going to be £7k.

A3 is OK if you are not that into the drive itself, nice interior and so a nice place to be, just disappointing when you want to have fun.

Thanks to all who responded. She ended up going for a 1.6i Mini.

I put the deposit down on it today

Reason being, her friend has a Jazz and two of her other friends have a 1-Series. Suppose she wants to be different .

Oh well, as long as she is happy.

Thanks again.

I'm sure she will be. What year is it?

2005 (55 Plate), 27k on the clock, Chilli pack, Radio/CD Multi-changer, air con etc, one year warranty for 6,500 quid. Practically brand new..

Very tidy motor, and looks dare i say it. The business....:o

Sounds like a reasonable spec.

She is a girl. . . . so she will love both. . . . or anything with a soft top.

sTeVe

Faced with the same choice, my wife chose the Mini Cooper Convertible - it is so sweeeeet !:)

Honda Civic perhaps?

Good quality and will run forever without a problems if looked after.

Volvo C30?

Great deals on new ones and dirt cheap as used.... values down the drain.
