Engine will not rev beyond 2800 rpm, lack of power and nil turbo boost - no warning lights

I took the car to MB dealership and the technicians report is:-

Manifold linkage broken at inlet port shut off motor. Requires new manifold and IPSO

All that for a cool fifteen hundred quid - given that the car is 2004 and very disappointingly showing some rust on the inside edge of the wheel arches and a few other areas - the long term plan was to simply run the old girl as a shooting and fishing getabout, and buy the Mrs a B class for day to day use

Does the diagnosis sound correct - the engine runs and sounds perfectly ok all but he power loss, Im wondering whether it is simply a failed shut off motor (whatever that is )

Would a local garage be a better alternative - is it a difficult fix?

Appreciate any feedback

Sounds likely as it's a common fault. I recently done mine diy, took me 5 hours to remove and install. Not a straight forward job tbh but if your handy with the spanners is definitely do able. It cost me £350 to do in total. I wrote a thread on it which I posted some questions on

Forgot to mention I replaced both manifold and motor for that price.

Good one Jay

Interestingly, I have been out on a jaunt to (quickly) find an alternative car on a trade in basis and since the car has been plugged in, it seems substantially better and will rev to 3500

Definite improvement so I am now wondering whether something has fixed itself

Get it fixed or get rid, there is a small chance that the butterfly style flap can get sucked into your engine, you don't have to buy the manifolds through Mercedes anymore and find a local Indy to fit it.

Indeed very common and I doubt if you'll sell it as is. Find a good indie if you're unable to DIY.
