ML Rear View Mirror question

on my 54 ML270, under the rear view mirror behind the autodim switch and green LED, there is an orange light which shines down on the centre console when you have the exterior lights on. I can't find anything about it in the manual, but does anyone know whether I can turn it off?

Its the ambient lighting, just lifts the total darkness in the cabin area around the console

and no, you cannot turn it off

Ooh, I didn't realise the W163 came with ambient lighting - thought it was too early for that.

Not the Ambient Lighting as on newer E class etc..

I meant the term as generally applied, it provides a very low level illumination, only really noticable in total darkness

I'd settle for that if it was already in the car!! I like the hue/glow it produces.

I started a thread a while ago about retrofitting to my C and at the time concluded it was too expensive - I can't imagine it would be different for our ML.

A replacement RVM needed, you might get lucky at the breakers or ebay?

green light on = rear view and drivers side mirror set to autodim
green light off = autodim off

it's on about page 116 - 120 of the manual because I looked it up yesterday!
