Hi folks,
As some of you may know I had my alternator replaced recently.
However, a strange oil leak has started, I say it's strange as its leaking onto the alternator. I took most of the pipe work off including the airbox and big pipe which connects to turbo and has the pipe from oil seperator in it. I have cleaned these up and checked them and there are no signs of oil on them. I didn't remove any pipes lower down as it started to rain. Is there something I have missed?
Also now when I drive I get a whooshing noise under acceleration and a sort of dump valve blow off sound when I lift off the gas! Car drives fine (no limp mode etc) just a bit puzzling.
Any help/views appreciated :-)

One of the boosted air pipes is loose or a pipe not plugged in.

Forgot to mention there is no oil on driveway so it seems like the oil only starts to run when car is running

Would that be the possible cause of noise or oil? I have recently replaced the boost pipe which goes into egr with a new part from merc. So I can rule that out?

Both.

The oil is being blown out under boost, which is also making the whooshing noise.

Ahh I see. So I need to take out pipes again and get the others further down.
I think the 1 I missed was the turbo damper (think that's what it's called lol)

Narrowed it down to the pipe that bolts onto turbo and has oil seperator pipe in it.
Turbo is covered in oil down 1 side. Is this safe as the oil smokes when turbo is hot

Ok I found out today that the above mentioned pipe was missing a small piece.
Thinking the mechanics which replaced my alternator had put the wrong jubilee clip on where the pipe connects to turbo, I went to Mercedes to double check. The guy in parts showed me an exploded diagram of the area in question and I noticed from that I was missing a part. It turns out I was missing a seal which can only be discribed as a 1 inch thick red rubber band, which slots inside the end of the pipe and over the shaft of the turbo.

Luckily they had it in stock so I got the part, drove home and proceeded to merrily strip down the pipes to fit this seal. What greeted me was not nice. Because this seal had been missing, the end of the pipe where the jubilee clip is done up on the turbo was shredded. Totally devastated as now I need a new pipe.

Fixed as best I could for time being and at least the wooshing noise has stopped for now.
Hey ho another thing to buy. (I don't think I'll tell the mrs tho as she already says I spend more on the car than her!!)
