Mobil super oil

I have just upgarded to a W124 multi-valve E300 diesel estate from an ordinary 12 valve version. It has full MB service history and the last 6 or so have been done with Mobil Super semi-synthetic oil.

Does it makes sense to continue using this oil? If so the dealer in Bath says they're happy for customers to provide their own oil if they wish. They use Castrol themselves.

The Bristol dealer says they use Mobil Super at £7.20 per litre.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a place that has any special offers on oil at the moment.

One thing the Bristol dealer said surprised me - they use the suck method for changing the oil while the Bath dealer uses the flush method. I always thought flush was the best way. I would appreciate any thoughts on this.

Cheers,

Kevin

In reply to your question regarding the suck or flush - Personally I would prefer the flush method as it will clear out a far better proportion of the old oil and the new oil will remain in a cleaner state for longer. Unfortunately I do not have a dipstick so I am unable to verify this visually any more.

I have just had my car serviced (Service B - car has done 20,000ish miles) at the main dealers and they carried out a flush.

Another point regarding the oil in use - The oil was changed to Mobil Super. At the last service (Service A) it was Castrol Magnatech (spelling OK I hope). After this service my fuel consuption has greatly improved. I am putting it down to the oil as my driving technique has not changed.
Perhaps there are others out there who share my views

Saw some at the big Asda in Watford about 2 weeks ago. It was either £21 or £24 for 4L of Mobil Super. Not sure if this is a regional thing.

Cheers,swl
