Hello All,

Just a quick question - I'm coming over from having had a work 3 series for a while. Not had a Merc' since a rather unfortunate tenure of a CLK some years back. My girlfriend has an old 190 which I love.

Question is - do MB make anything that feels like a sportline 190 these days. Looked at some sport C-Class cars but they feel a bit insubstantial.

Are the non-sport cars closer to the old Sportline?

Any suggestions on what would make the bast C-Class purchase greatly appreciated.

Best

Either the C180 or the C63AMG would be the best based on the scant info you've given.

You'd be better off shopping around and spending the money on a 'time warp' 190 - they do turn up from time to time .

None of the newer stuff is the same .

A 190E 2.6 is the one to go for .

Mercedes-190.co.uk is the site to visit

Thanks all,

Having read my first post, I can agree that it makes little sense!

I've got about this much money to spend http://www.usedcarexpert.co.uk/buy/mercedes/c-class/d-15555/id-7256746/

seems a very sensible buy - not really into diesel cars - just do too few miles...

But I really want this...

Strange to want a 25 year old car but every time I drive the lady's 190 - it just feels 'better' than all the modern cars I've had of late. I wonder if a really, really low spec C class might feel the same?

With regard to the C - any obvious versions to avoid? trim? Engines etc?

Carl.

Just buy yourself a proper 2.6 Sportline and have done with it. I have two of them and they are superb cars. Lovely smooth 6-cylinder engine, excellent road manners around town and a joy to drive on the twisty bits. Built in the days when Mercedes engineers didn't have accountants peering over their shoulders and ...........depreciation - what depreciation?

Just to whet your appetite

My old 300E sportline. Should have kept hold of it but really needed something more economical at the time.
Sold for £400 to a friend of a friend and now probably scrapped as I was told he isn't one for looking after cars.

190e 2.6

Have owned a 190E 2.6 in the past ( 1988) ansolutely excellent car covered over 100K miles in it without missing a beat. Now have a C180 2LTR is nuthing but trouble and now hate it. Good luck
