A140 - getting lifts from her
Hiya all - picking up a new puppy on Monday (golden retriever) and looking to get an estate/ SUV type car as well, now been looking through Autotrader and the great eBay and have a few Idea as to how to get the most for my money (not whole lot I may add)Cica the 7k mark.

Now I may be asking allot for the budget but I would really like something with some toys, heated seats, Cd, Leather, on board computer etc. I would also ideally like a diesel........

ideas so far

Volvo V range
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Honda CRV
Old Landrover (uuuuuuum no would never get anywhere)

any more ideas would be very welcome:) :) :)

Thanks

Mike

Older shape Subaru legacy estate or outback. A good un will go on for years however a bad one will be an expensive nightmare. Chose carefully. Dont buy an American built one. late 1990s I think. H6 engined ones fly.

Ignoring image etc., 4x4s aren't actually that good for dogs unless you really need to go off-road. An estate will have more space in the rear, and a much lower loading height (people I know with SUVs often end up with ramps to get older or unfit dogs in and out).

Obviously an estate will drive and handle better, be more economical, and you can have 4WD anyway (Audi, Volvo, Subaru, etc.) if you want ...

W202 estate - even comes with an integral dog guard. Sellotape a calculator and a game boy to the dash and bish bosh job's a goodun.

BMW 5 series estate they also have integral dog guard i had a 1996 one last of the old shape very nice.
Or you could look at a primera or accord estate, my parents have a primera SE, that has all the extras you listed and cheap :bannana:

Or an Alfa 156 Sportwagon - the 2.4 diesel is supposed to be cracking

It would have to be a very small dog!
IT'S A PUPPY!

Ok so it may grow a bit over time but I like the Sportwagons so that's my other recommendation! I'm just waiting for the GTA's to come down further in price then see if my wife will get one.

Shouldn't take more than a few weeks ;)

Mondeo diesel estate...cheap as chips £1000 for S /T reg if your a shrude buyer....:)

Great Ideas fellas thanks,

LOL - YES it is a puppy for now:D :D :D

The ford does look good, but I am 29, surely I'm not allowed to own a non company car ford???

Not much of a scuby fan, leave those to the........... ....... you know!!

I hear the 4x4 debate - new car tax rule and loading height might not be ideal......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................:o  :o

Oh well still some great ideas to throw into the mix!!!!

Mike

What about a w124 estate. Loads of room in the back for the dog. Has dog guard. Reliable and cheap to buy.

Mike

My 82-year old Dad has had a Scuby (Forester) for the last 6 years!

I'd go for a 124. But I'm biased :)

4x4's Remember budget!

It's not the 4x4's that get hit per say, its the cars with high emisions.

My C280 estate would have been in the top bracket as is my SL320.

I'd buy a Range Rover, just to stick two fingers up at Gordon Brown (the environment-lying tax-grabbing cnut) and the green yoghurt knitting sandal wearing lentil eating lobby.

Stuff 'em!
