Moving from a W211 E55K to a W212 E63 Biturbo

Quaife made a big difference on my E55 too. Well worth the investment.

Interesting to hear your thoughts Roger after having your 55K for a good while. Things clearly move on generally, but I've not really seen such solid build to the interiors since the 211. Newer models look slick, but materials just dont seem to be as good. That's only me having a brief look though and not spending much time in models since.

Did they sort out the KG start button for you btw?

They did Will, and a new badge on the boot.

I have to say the dealer made the buying experience very pleasant.

I cleaned up my exhaust tips today they come up great. Should of taken a before and after shot :wallbash:

Nice Roger:thumb:

Interior colourway looks great. Reckon it needs a slight drop on suspension:D

I don't know why, but on mine (2012) the Eco mostly doesn't operate. It does from time to time, so I switch it off; I find it a bit disconcerting. If I drove much in traffic, I might feel differently; but I don't, so I don't.

I prefer the W211 interior to the W212; yes, dated, but distinctively Mercedes somehow, in a way the 212 isn't. Maybe it's because I'm dated too...

Don't think I haven't thought that already Simon.
Priced up H&R front springs and lowering links for the rear already:D

You know it makes sense. Good man!

Not sure what you mean by it doesn't operate?

ECO is a driving mode you set and you get a yellow or green ECO symbol.

Switching off the engine is one part of ECO mode as opposed to "the" ECO mode.

With regard to stop/start, if the symbol is yellow there are one or more conditions not met, so the car will not switch off. These include temperature being within a certain threshold of the set temperature, how well-charged the batteries are etc.

When green, the car will switch off at a stop if you press the brake pedal hard enough.

A constantly-yellow ECO symbol is typically power-related from what I've seen - so it means the journeys you do are not sufficiently charging the battery (duff battery(s) / alternator and / or a parasitic drain).

I recently had a new battery (original 2013 one) and whilst my car did show a green ECO symbol quite often, it's a lot more now.

Two more observations.
The reserve fuel light comes on far earlier on the Biturbo.
A fraction under the quarter mark and it was lit, and I get a message on the Comand screen asking if it wanted me to search for the nearest garages:D

Second one...........Had an open road and no traffic in sight or behind me so floored it.
Bl00dy hell its rapid, and I'm very familiar with the 55 accelerating.

The Eco button not working can be linked to some off the engine code issues that affect the M157. It can present itself with the cam timing issues along with slow starting.

It might be worth getting it checked. Maybe you’ve had issues coded out of your ECU in the past?

The green ECO light stays on in the switch, and in the dash display, but the engine doesn't stop. I can switch it on, but I don't usually bother. I'm not complaining...

Mine, with the Performance Pack, gives 550 bhp and 590 lb. ft. I think the facelift has that as standard, though not the 155 mph limit raised to 186 mph. I think yours has split cooling for the intercooler, too; the cynic in me definitely suspects that was introduced by MB to obviate the inlet air overheat/misfire/bent conrod problem I had...

It's noticeably faster than the standard E55Ks I had; I think your butt dyno may need recalibrating.
