There seems to be just rubbish on the market at the moment for W140's so am thinking of biting the bullet and moving to a W220.

My preferences/requirements are:

dark colour
full service history
no 'gremlins'
no rust
LWB
430 or higher

Not bothered about miles as condition and history are more important to me.

Thanks in advance

Have you had a good look on AutoTrader?

This S500 W140 has FMBSH, 2 owners, immaculate inside & out (says the ad), 79000 miles and only £2700ono... you can knock them down from that.

Q.

I have seen the ones on AT etc - that particular one is an early series one W140 - I will pass.

Anyways, the W220's are dropping like stones so a decent example of one of them is attractive at the moment.

SL is gone to a new home so hunt continues. The V8 in the SL was magnificent so tending towards a W220 S500 but then, the W140 just has that 'something'. Decisions decisions

My wife just wants an end to this!

i got 1999 s 55L amg thinking of selling it

I would try and avoid early 220's. They tend to be rusty and a little beaten up.

So you say....while trying to line up an S55L in the other!!!

Same idea as me...a baby carraige?

I can see it now....two S55L's being bought for the purposes of conveying newborns!

Good Luck mate
I spent over a year looking at S320's and S500's before finding one with sensible miles full History etc
Mine you now its arrived I Love it !!!

The miles are not the issue since they will do Neptune mileage without a problem but more when things start to go and people can't afford to fix them - it then enters a spiral downwards. What I have seen, and Olly commented on, is the rust - does not matter who owns the car, it was going to happen so the question is how they addressed it. A cheap repair? Did MB do a substandard job (forum search for this one!); did a mate under the arches do it.

Add to that prices all over the place with some who, and you have to give them credit here, must have been snorting ADS fluid to come up with the prices they are asking. Then mix in Barry the Backyard Trader who would thinks that the local garage can service the car and that is a full history ("What's STAR?") and it all becomes fun and games.

Still does not stop me liking them, so definitely an enthusiast!
