Mrs corned, the prospective felon

I think you need to get her stand at the gates to your property and shout loudly and repeatedly "Come & Get Me Copper" If this fails try something like "You Dirty Rats You thought You Could Take Me Alive? That Will Never Happen"

"Away and get a real job" usually works a treat.

This is the thing. She's already asked me if they produced photos of her committing the offence, and said "I'm going to ignore it and just let them issue the points/fine", so you're both not far off the mark.

No doubt she'll soon ask me for that celebrity traffic violation bloke (can't think of his name...) so escalation is quite possible.

Currently trying to talk her out of a 'Thelma and Louise' re-enactment... :D

The offence was to fail to observe the requirements of a mandatory turn left sign at the end of a road where it meets a dual carriageway. If you time it right with the traffic, you can go across to the central reservation and effect a right turn, saving having to go left and down to a roundabout several hundred yards away and back again.

And they sent an officer round to your house for that ??

It's good to know that your local force (Is it Nottinghamshire ? If so, the worst performing force in the country) is allocating its resources so purposefully.

I don't know what the specific offence for making an illegal right turn is, but it may affect insurance more than you'd think (and obviously it will apply to every policy she's on if you have several vehicles). At the very least you'll have to remember to declare it every time you get an insurance quote or a hire car.

I would definitely be encouraging her to do the CS.

If they had got wind of the fact that Keith is from Sheffield they would have probably sent S.W.A.T.

Unfortunately, that junction and the road leading to it is a common cut-through for a lot of people. Not everyone doing that is a resident or is dropping their kids off at the school (as my wife was). I think it was part of a 'sting' to catch the rat-runners, which have attracted complaints from quite a few of the locals apparently. My wife is but one of many 'stung' that morning.

As I understood it, the option to do a bit of CS results in nothing going any further. No record, no conviction, no anything.

I know it's common to be offered a driving course for various offences now, but I've never heard of CS being offered.

I'd be interested to know the offence code - I'm not sure it's endorseable. In London the blue direction signs are dealt with by the local authority now, £120 penalty, reduced to £60 for quick payment. No points.
