Music solution for 2007 CL600?

I recently bought a 2007 CL600. I am now trying to get a music solution to work with the COMAND system. From my online research I bought the following 3 products:

PCMCIA Compact Flash Card Adaptor for Mercedes COMAND APS systems (S E C GLK Class) with PCMCIA Slot

Transcend All-in-1 Multi-Card Reader Device (SDHC/SDXC/MSXC USB 3.0) Black

Transcend TS16GCF133 16GB CompactFlash Memory Card

I then burned some MP3 music files on to the FlashCard and checked that they play on my PC (they do). I then inserted the FlashCard into the PCMCIA adaptor and plugged it into the slot in my car. Unfortunately I get the same error message of “Format Not Recognised”. This occurs whether I start the car first and then insert the adaptor or start the car after insertion of the adaptor. I have put c.3GB of music on the FlashCard. I arranged these in individual folders on the FlashCard with about 75 songs in each one.

Anyone know of a fix for this? Some forums suggest it can be crapshoot as to whether it works on any given day. Am I resigned to carrying around my CD collection? What do forum users do for their music solution?

Thanks in advance!

I can't give any specific solutions but here's some suggestions.
  • A 16GB card will probably be formatted to either FAT32 or ExFAT. Does the car support reading these formats?
  • Some systems have an upper limit of 4GB which is the addressing limit of the (old) FAT file system.
  • There are various ways of encoding MP3. Some systems can't handle high bit rates or variable rate encoding.

Easiest thing to try is to make some MP3s with, say, a 128k bit rate and constant rate encoding. Also try putting a smaller number of files in each folder. If you can get hold of a smaller CF card (4GB) it might be worth a try.

Thanks for this suggestion...I had assumed that an MP3 file was an MP3 file but obviously not! I will have a look this evening to see and report back.

Reference the above I have not been able to get the COMAND system to recognise the music format of the CF card I am using...have tried everything obvious including only loading one song on the CF card. From an ebay reviewer it seemed like the selection of items I bought would work for a CL of the vintage I own, but no luck!

I am wondering if there are other solutions e.g. using the phone system to somehow play music? Or replacing the 6 CD changer with something that would allow me to Bluetooth music from my phone? One forum post had a person installing a Dension to make this work but they don't seem to make anything for my model. Has anyone tried this? Many thanks

You can replace the CD changer with a hard drive - Google is your friend here
