My 560SEC - Pics

what a good idea for the outer lip.

It took me ages to make the decision as some chrome powder finishes I've seen are either crinkly or have faint thin black lines in. I'm very happy with this finish, even though there is not much contrast between dish and plate.

They look really nice.....if you don't mind me asking, who did the wheels ?

that car with those wheels will be just stunning, so much better than Penta's IMO, would like to see a photoshop though of the centres colour coded as its such a lovely blue

It was these guys. Voodoo Motorsport: VW & Audi modification specialists....coilovers, arride, bushes, chassis, exhausts, engine conversions - they specialise in the strip and re-assembly of split rims. The powder coaters are in the unit next door. Very personable and the wheels come with a 12 month guarantee on the seal, though they were at pains to stress they've not had any back in 10 years.

Just thought I'd share a little progress: the other week I bought the black staggered OZ Splits pictured below. Today I collected them after re-finishing, pics of the rear below. The plates are powder coated and the dishes are actually a chrome powder coat. I needed a durable finish so polishing was out and this a pretty close match as it looks like a slightly dulled polish. Left the drums black as well. Thanks to Voodoo Motorsport Nr Hemel for a terrific job stripping and rebuilding - a hard skill to find at a reasonable price.

They'll be fitted up in a couple of weeks or so, with some H & R lowered springs and I'll post some shots of them on the car.

Having split and rebuilt my own, their prices are very reasonable as it's very labour intensive (around an hour just to bolt each one back together). I made the mistake of having the dishes painted rather than powdercoated and it simply isn't lasting, so I will have to split them down again and have them done as per yours.

Thankfully the barrels and centres won't need touching, nor will the fasteners which I replaced with stainless last time round.

That's the main reason I didn't colour code mine .... durability. That said when I was speaking with owner he was telling you can buy polished stainless dishes. Didn't ask the price though.

Ironically the colour coded centres are holding up fine, it's just the dishes which I had painted when really they should have been powdercoated. The paint started to deform and crinkle around the bolt heads at assembly, and it's got worse since as moisture gets in behind it.

Radinox dishes are about €160ea for the fronts, and €180ea for the rears.

Love it, absolutely superb. I used to have a 560sel and it's one of the only cars I'd buy straight back if it came on the market.

Oh... the best thing I love on the SEC, the wipers!

Beautiful car!! And those wheels are really going to set it off, just right!! :)

Lovely looking car, can't wait to see it with its new wheels.

Had the wheels and tyres done yesterday and here's the end result, not the best photo as it's an iphone, so will do some better ones later. :D

Next job is to get the H & R springs I have fitted.

Also, acquired a genuine AMG body kit the other day, front and rear spoilers and side skirts in pretty reasonable condition. The bumper wasn't advertised as such on ebay, but on close inspection of poor small photos it was clear it was the real deal and he had all the other bits. It was a real deal as well !

I know, I know, I just can't help myself

It started with the SEC for me though.... First came the interior retrtim, then the OZ Split Rims, then the AMG body kit which I just HAD to have... it never ends!

That reminds of how women behave when they see a new pair of shoes :D

Not that I'm saying you're a woman Jay.
