My battery has exploded!!!

You need to treat the area and crpet with alkali otherwise you won't have a boot floor after a while.

When was the last time you checked the electrolyte level in the old battery?
Even sealed batteries loose water through evaporation.

Check every six months.
 
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who's black cover for the box of tricks next to the battery is cracked. KH, yours has split in the exact same place mine has :rolleyes: making your lid look identical to mine. I wonder if this a W202 feature.

*EDIT* Hmm glad is the wrong word I think... make that reassured ;)

I had a w202 for about ten years and this lid never showed a crack ;)

about the battery explosion, isn't it possible that the battery being low on electrolyte, building up some gasses (as someone said before), the starter together with the 500watt amp firing up when turning the ignition caused the battery to heat up just enough to ignite the gasses?
