My C43/C55 Conversion

hi i paid 730 for it of ebay the guy had a coulpe of 55 engines and its supposed millage is 140000 its looks good with no bad oil leakes.
the plan is to replace the timing chain tensoiner and guides water pump head gaskets valve steam seals tappets. i also got some nice headers from the states. any way ill post some pics when i start

Hi,
Have you priced up the engine parts yet? As the parts you have quoted I don,t reckon you will see much change out of £500-600.
Do post up the pics when you do it, I would be very interested.
Good luck with the conversion, any questions Don,t hesitate to pm me.

thanks andy you prob right its gonna cost a bit in parts iam gonna order the parts tomorrow so ill post the complete cost of the re build parts. some will come from mercs some from gsf and some from euro car parts.

Silly question - but why do head gaskets, chain, guides etc when the engines are available for under £1000 and can be swapped in a few hours?

Water pump and idler pulley, check crank pulley perhaps whilst it's out - but tappets, chain, CHG seems like a lot of work if there's no issues with it?

Just the way I would look at it :)

Gearboxes seem to cause more problems with these cars than engines I would say? :o

Will hi I was gonna do a straight swap but you don't really know if the engine is in top form and what life it had so a re build is for pice of mind plus I've never done a m113 befor

I agree, personally I think a rebuild would be the better option for the long term, least then you know what your working with. Better to know that it has been rebuilt than to have it at the back of your mind that something may go wrong at any time.

Yes i agree as long as they have had regular oil changes etc. But in my mind if it has done much more than 100k then i would be looking at doing a freshen up on it. Trouble is the rings and shells are a fortune to start with :(

Price up the bottom end parts. ££££££££££££

Proper ££££££

The cost of another engine again :(

the bottem will be checked. i have the service book for the car the engine came out of the history was very good. ive spent £500 on parts so far thats nearly everythink i think:wallbash:

For curiosity what parts have you bought so far?
I must admit the thought crossed my mind regarding doing a minor rebuild on the 55 lump but after a conversation with Olly regarding the strength and reliability of the N/A 113 lump and my own experience with the nearly 50,000miles I have covered in it I decided not too.
I think there has only ever been one case of a blown head gasket on a 113 engine on this forum, and then IIRC that was,nt cut and dried most people on here believed it was engine condensation, but i don,t think the guy ever posted back.

You can find some part exchange rebuilt M113 55 engines in Germany with 12 months guarantee, but they are defo NOT cheap

the main reason for my rebuild is i want to replace the timing chain kit (chain guides tensoiner) so heads off. while the heads are off ill have them ported and polished also ill re lap the valves and clean the engine internals

Hi,
Don,t forget to check the bottom pulley for wear, as this is a very common fault with the 112 & 113 engines also when you remove the heads Don,t bother putting the wiring loom back on and remove it completly as you will have to put your 43 wiring loom on it when you do the swap.

hi,im new on this forum,i would like to say hello to all members
i was wonder what progress is on your conversion rawc43?
i am the guy who sold you e55 engine.
i just finished conversion on c43 with e55 engine and gearbox, and wasn't so bad as we thought.the e55 gearbox doesn't need any modyfication, fits perfectly on c43.
engine runs sweet at idlle only 650rpm,sounds louder then standard c43.
and is one of the fastest car ive ever driven, amazing beast.
good luck with your project ,its worth it,lots of fun:)

hi there yep the re build is going fine just waiting for one more part from mercs then i can put it all backso it looks like a engine again:thumb:

Starting the next one Thursday this week.

This one will be a little quicker...
