My Engine Keeps cutting out

I have a Mercedes V Class 220i. I have a major problem with it. While I am driving it cuts out, there is no regular pattern to this happening, it does it when it feels like it. When it happens the EDC light comes on the dash, no engine management light comes on. You wait 30 - 60 seconds and it will start up again.

Obviously this is dangerous when you are driving at 70 mph down the motorway. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before and could give me some suggestions on what it could be.

I have been to Mercedes to get them to look at it but nothing comes up on their machines. So even Mercedes have no idea what it could be. I hope someone can help, thank you.:)

I experienced cutting out on my C43, the culprit was the crank sensor - quite a common glitch across various Mercs. Part is about £100 and no more than an hours labour, in most cases, to fit it.

I have already replaced the crankshaft sensor
