My friend Dave just bought a SL 55 AMG. He had been looking for quite a while and I gad mentioned I would keep an eye out on here and the other side for a nice one within his budget. All seemed well until I have today received an email to say he's bought one, pure impulse buy. I hope for his sake it's not a costly mistake!
Anyway, he collects on Saturday and here it is:

Whenever I see something with air suspension or ABC up on stilts , it makes me nervous.

Especially if me or my friend Dave is about to part with readies for it lol

The SL R230 question comes up weekly..do a search, loads of stuff on known issues...copy paste info below :-

Great cars...but yes R230 SL can be money pits!

Its Achilles heel is ABC, strut change will cost £1500 per corner (Arnott refurb strut £600 USA) , Dave (great name by the way) must get the car up on a ramp and check for leaks...they also suffer from water ingress into the boot which kills the PSE pump...check the roof works perfectly...the R230 does have other issues which are well documented on this forum if you do search....Dave will also need to carefully check what is covered in any trader warranty agreement.

Imperative>>>due to complexity I would always advise a good MB indy inspection...

Tell him not to be scared though, as always a well looked after cared for example will be a great car!
