Following on from my recent thread about replacing the Steering Wheel on my 2012 C250 CDI Sport+ Coupe - I was directed to Royal Steering Wheels by Forum Member KennyN.
The story starts with a number of e-mails to qualify my requirements with Jack, the owner.
I settle for a slightly thicker rim with black punched leather at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions, black alcantara for the rest, with red stitching to match my Sports+ interior trim.
The first picture shows the example that Jack sent through in our early e-mail exchanges.
From there, it was a simple case of providing a deposit via PayPal to start the work.
There are a number of options available for fitting, once your new steering wheel is complete:
- Send in your current one for trimming, and re-fit it yourself when it is returned
- Pop down to Aylesbury to see Jack, and he will do it for a small fee
- Pay a deposit, the wheel is sent to you. The old one is then returned, and the deposit refunded
I opted for the second choice and went to see Jack for fitment.
Upon meeting Jack, you are immediately at ease - as well as being both respectful and knowledgeable - I was impressed by his work ethic.
Whilst a lot of his work is around the BMW market, Jack does a number of Mercedes cars.
The old wheel was quickly removed, and the new one put into place with a minimum of fuss. Jack then took his time in cleaning the whole steering wheel, and took a couple of post installation snaps.
Then you get in the car and admire his work.
The wheel is slightly thicker than a standard AMG unit, so it has a nice chunky feel.
The alcantara is lovely to the touch! Jack also provides clear guidance on how to keep it looking good.
The latter picture shows the new steering wheel in situ.
In terms of cost, Jack's pricing is very modest when compared to the cost of buying a whole new steering wheel.
This is a bespoke product, so you can have whatever you want.
I can't recommend Royal Steering Wheels highly enough.

A final note of thanks to KennyN for steering me (pun intended) to this service.
