Just trying to finalise the spec on my order placed last week and someone else has mentioned that they have decided to upgrade to Nappa leather.

Is there really much difference and is it worth the extra money?

On some colours this isn't available anyway and you have to stick with the normal leather.

my thoughts are as I'm a tight git and I dont keep my cars long is RESALE RESALE RESALE

I cant see that come resale the car will be worth anymore than normal leather, therefore I would not have it. Normal leather is fine anyway and cant see nappa being worth a premium.

I always choose a slow depreciating fairly high spec model and then spec with essentials, which in e coupe case is leather, and comand. You lose less money that way

It is me that has ordered it :)

I keep my cars 3 years so don't think a great deal about resale more interested in having exactly what I want for the duration.

The Nappa leather does look little more exclusive as it has hardly any grain so gives the car a more expensive look. The standard leather being a bit harder and more grained looks cheaper in comparison.

Once I saw one with Nappa for the sake of an extra £500 I couldn't say no.

I would say it is a nice to have rather than a must have but seeing as I was adding dynamic handling package I just thought sod it.

Nappa leather is lovely, I have always found standard Merc leather to be quite cheap feeling compared to many others.

Dave!

I will add I was happy with normal leather until I saw a E coupe with black leather thatched done 13k miles. The leather looked hard, shiny and poor quality.

Nappa just looks classy.

I have nappa in my C-Class, and it looks lovely. If you use your car for family use or wear jeans, then regular leather may be a wiser option. I would actually prefer half leather, but sadly not an option on my car.

Go for the nappa,i have a complete nappa interior(incl dash)in my cls & at 3 years old it still looks & smells like new(just remember to clean/feed it with a good quality leather cleaner once a month).

nappa wears too easilly and looks old quickly.

Standard leather!

Thanks for all the comments, an interesting and non conclusive mix. I'll go into the dealer at the weekend and have a look at both.

As there is almost certain to be a price rise before I take delivery, then I may stay with what I have ordered already.

Depends on how one cares for it. Cleaned and treated routinely nappa will look as good as new for many years. Normal leather will take the neglect better for a while but then will also look tired, the surface will crack and peel. There's not much one can do to prevent it as normal leather has a PU coating that prevents conditioners from being absorbed.

I just mean where my bottom and back were on the seat started to really sag after 2 years and 15k miles.

Mine after 15k miles, I reckon Dave at d:class did a good job! :thumb:
Just a couple of creases appearing on the seat base but no sagging ;)

If I had the extra money definitely nappa. Normal Merc leather can look a little too much like the Artico plastic or MBTex.
It does need a little extra care and shows dirt, scuffs and scratches a bit more easily especially if you get the lighter colours like cream. Avoid it if you have young children and crayons.

I would say if your not of the larger gent then the Nappa will be fine. If you are go for the standard, I am 18 stone (I spend way too much time in the gym) and find that the leather wears pretty quickly.

Was it a Sport or SE? The Sport comes standard with Mercedes man made substitute Artico leather so standard leather and Nappa are both optional extras wereas the SE comes with real leather as standard. Mercedes thinking!?

I agree that black leather is much nicer with the Nappa. However, I am going for the Alpaca grey/black two tone and with this combination I think the standard leather looks nicer. The grain of the normal leather suits it and I think the Nappa looks a bit too smooth and a bit like plastic with the lighter colours.

Apart from that I already have about £8K's worth of options, including the Designo paint and so I don't want to spend any more!
