They must do..................they managed to cater for Jeffrey Archer, after all :)

He'll prolly only do 3 months hard labour then 3 months in one of those "open" day prisons then he'll b out on parole for good behaviour....

Sentancing of driving offences really needs to be looked at - its the most brutal of offences with the most leniant of punishments.

With all the other nonces:D

A misinterpretation of the word . He may be an idiot and a lot of other things but he is not a nonce, if he was he would have got a lot longer than fifteen months. I also think he should have got a longer sentence .

I see the big issue highlighted (again) by this case is the lamentable sentance available to the courts when someone is convicted of Dangerous Driving compared to Death by Dangerous Driving.

This basically means that, had the victim been of a poorer state of health, unable to recover from such serious trauma, and as a result had died, the driver would have faced a much longer sentance.

This is why "Killed & Seriously Injured" figures are quoted rather than just number of fatal collisions.

The driver here is in show business and sets himself up (successfully) as "the bad guy" and earns a lot from this image. Contrast that with, say. Michael Barrymore who set himself up as "Mr Nice Guy"...
Giant Haystacks wore Black, so he was the bad man, Big Daddy wore Red White & Blue and so was the Good guy, lets not mix the media image with what might or might not be the reality of these people?!

That the driver got jailed is a good thing, but it is clear that the options available to the court were too limited, ironically due to the physical strength of the victim here.

Tougher sentances for Dangerous Driving need to be available to the courts.

The reconstruction video showed that his car was on the wrong side of a solid white line and speeding.

Ok not in the usual sense but if he goes into segregation who know what sorts he will end up mixing with. But he pretty clearly fall into (2):D

Nonce:Noun. 1. A sexual deviant, having been convicted of a sex crime against children. 2. An objectionable or contemptible person, by extension of the definition in noun 1.

Good to see he has been made an example of - I'm sure there would have been a public outcry if he had not been jailed as result of this.

I agree with No 2.

Personally i get a heavy sense of irony from this thread.

It seems you are famous and you get done for speeding, trying to evade prosecution etc.... its HANG EM!!!

You are a member here and you get caught for speeding and you try to evade prosecution.... its oh poor you here is a way to get out of it, unlucky you etc.

Not interested in a flame war - just illustrating that in all life there are double standards.

if it was a member of this forum who behaved like Naz I would be the first to shop them to the Old Bill.

Friend or no friend - anybody who has that much disregard for human life needs to be taken out of circulation for all our safety.

Flasheart actually raises an interesting, and valid, point.

Several contributors have posted videos of their 150+mph driving exploits on public roads to (almost) universal acclaim & hero worship.

I feel it's a case of there but for the grace of God go they. Who will be the first mbclub.co.uk member to die and kill &/or maim others in a Prince Naz moment?

Somebody start a poll.

Perhaps. But NH is different in that he is and always has been known as an insufferable twerp with too much money who has a long history of driving like, well, an insufferable twerp with too much money. Many local reports over the years of him driving at huge speeds around town, cutting people up and habitually driving in bus lanes and generally showing off.

Many have wondered at his ability to avoid greater trouble with the law in the past both in terms of his driving style and various "odd" business dealings.

Some have offered reasons for that which are perhaps best not repeated.

We all have our moments but this is the culmination of a lifelong reckless and pointless driving style followed by a blatent attempt to evade blame having fled the scene of a very serious incident that has left the driver of the other car in a woeful state for the rest of his life and his wife seriously injured. It is reported that evidential difficulties prevented charges of Conspiracy to pervert the course of justice being put forward but the CPS thought about it for a very long time, hence the trial delay. The civil litigation for damages continues.

"In 1997 he took a Ferrari Berlinetta for a test drive and crashed it. Asked a year later to say which car had the best performance, he said: "Definitely the Lamborghini. But I do enjoy driving my Ferrari. Saying that, I've got my Aston Martin in town. You just feel different in all of them. I've always said to myself, different cars for different days ... Aston Martin'll be the occasion where it may be a premiere or something like that ... The Porsche'd be just a sling-around-town job ... just a flash around town, just pop to the shop, and here and there, you're in a Porsche, d'you know what I mean"

Yes, your Highness, we know exactly what you meant and so did the court. Nothing had changed and after all that expected to believe vomit inducing expressions of remorse and the outpourings of 43 character witnesses. Sure he does lots of charity work but quite clear the only thing he was sorry about was being finally caught out for years of reckless driving.

That is why the judge wanted to throw away the key but could not impose a longer stretch. The wonder is that he has not killed or seriously injured anyone before now.
