I have just got back from MB having given them my car to activate the navigation in the instrument cluster on a W203.

Why I did not test it on the way home I do not know!

I have just tried it and the Navi screen is still not available in the instrument cluster; i.e. if I scroll through the menus it should show between the audio screen and fault list screen but noooo...

I have the diagnostic print out in front of me and it does show COMAND with a tick next to it and a second page showing the unit part no. make model version etc... so the car knows it has one.

Is there something else they need to do?

Going back tomorrow so would be nice to be able to say "You forgot to set the thingy in the jobby you idiot!"

Any ideas?
Thanks

See below taken from Richards excellent (www.mercupgrades.com) site;

a) Start Star diagnosis, and select the correct vehicle

b) In the Main Groups screen, select “Control Units”

c) In the Control Unit Groups screen, select “Information and Communication”

d) In the “Information and Communication” screen, select “D2B – COMAND or Audio”

e) In the “Cockpit management and data system” screen, first select “Retrofitting of D2B Components”

- run through that process and select YES when it asks whether to actually write the new configuration

f) Return to the screen in (e), and select “Control Unit Adaptations”

g) Select “Read coding and change if necessary”

h) Select “configuration of components (not D2B)”

Enable the following: -

Telephone with enlarged functionality

TV Tuner

Instrument cluster with automatically centering text ***

Analog BOSE (IF YOU HAVE ANALOGUE BOSE only)

SMS transmissions permitted

And save the changes to the COMAND system

(*** I think this is true for all models)

i) Return to the (e) screen, and select Radio parameters

Set the “Tuner ident” to the correct country for you (Europe/Japan/North America/South America)

k) Return to the (e) screen and select “Variant Coding”

set the Model/Series correctly, and the FADER ON if your vehicle has front and rear speakers (most vehicles except the SL).

l) Return to the menu in (c) above, and select “ICM – Instrument cluster”

m) Select “Control Unit adaptations”, then select “Variant Coding”, then select “Optional Equipment”

n) Set “Navigation” to “PRESENT” and save the coding.

On each of the steps (e), (h) -> (k) and (n) Star Diagnosis will ask for the coding to be transferred to the vehicle, which should be done.

Have you tried entering a destination? That might bring up the screen in your cluster.

(I agree, you should have a 'Navi Off' message or something similar if route navigation is off)

I did try it with a destination also.
Apearantly it should show 'Navi Off' if there is no COMAND unit but NAVI menu option is available; or "Navi Active" if COMAND exists but no destination programmed otherwise (i.e. COMAND present and destination programmed) it should show the direction symbols and countdown etc...
But mine just skips over the NAVI screen altogether.
Cheers anyway.
I will go to MB armed with Alfie's response above and WATCH them do it.

Probably wont let to watch them cos ".........it's against our health and safety blah blah blah to let customers in the workshop.............."
Which basically translates to "..........we don't want you in the workshop cos you might hear us talk of how incompetent we are, and we don't know what we're doing............"

Good luck, mate.

That's most of the times so true!

Mine (W203 03 with Audio 30 APS) is giving "NAV Off" in the menu when I don't use the NAV. It's the next menu after Audio.

All sorted now.
MB didnt know there were two parts to the job!
Thanks again Alfie.
