Went for a routine update maps On MB dealer in Belfast and got my car back with a message on the screen:'' PLease insert navigation update DVD no.1". The service advisor told us the technician got an error "corrupt file "when he tried to update maps so need to come back in another day to try again and now navigation not working at all so they will fix free of charge because it was working before. 3 times went back nothing was done. They couldn't fix the problem. I went to Aa company who repair Sat Navs they didn't know what is wrong as well. Seems nobody knows what the MB dealer in Belfast done to my Navi. In meantime, i have no Navi or any map on my Navi it's just staked to that message and even I tried with my old sd card to see if it's working, no my sat nav doesn't see it sd or DVD don't see it any. Just the message stuck on the screen. What u recommend me to do? The MB dealer who bricked my Sat nav refuses to replace the unit and others don't know to fix the issue..
Thank you in advance for your help guys

Surely it is very simple?

It was working when they started work on it, now it is not so they are responsbile.

Make an appointment with the Service Manager and / or Dealer Principle and ask them what their intentions ae regarding fixing a problem they caused.

Did any of the others try to insert navigation update DVD #1. Somehow got the impression that this would fix you navigation :) (obviously a DVD with no broken files).

If they did try the update, did they all get the same error message?

They refuse to talk to me. When the costumer assistant rang me to tell me my request to exchange the navi unit he told me the reason wa snot approved it's because:'' my car was not a recall and I cam willingly to them'' . I said yeah i came willingly to update my maps not to brake my sat nav, if i wanted to take the risk of going to not professional people I would go to the back yard garage not to a big MB dealer . his answer? :'' u can make a complaint to MB Uk' . Rang them they passed me to MB Dublin because @we have no record of your car as u have Irish plates '' . MB Dublin passed me back to Uk. so they passed me one each other. I posted a bad review about them on their fb page and they deleted, i rang them and they said :'' that they sorted out my problem and already gave me an answer about that '' ( the answer that they are not going to change my unit on their expense ). I rang Citizen Advice and they sent me a template of a letter to complain about a poor standard of service but because English is not my mother language i need to go in Belfast to a solicitor to do it for me. I,m so so upset about this...

I went back to them 3 times, last time they kept my car for 2 days and same they said they couldn't fix it. Went to a company in Dublin who repair sat navs they inserted a DVD and tried and with an sd card but nothing happened. The message still there. Ranga MB dealer from Dublin maybe they could fix it and I would pay but they said that seems its a serious matter and they advise me to go back to the dealer who did the damage to my unit because might be expensive for me to repair or might need to replace the whole unit. I want to sell my car and get an E class but cant sell with broken sat nav so need to repair or.. replace :((..

OK, should not be a DVD drive issue then either (don't know if this head unit accepts updates from USB). Perhaps Comand Online would have an idea.

Sorry to hear of your problems.

I’m sure your English is good enough, but to be sure, if you copy and paste the wording from the template given to you by Citizens Advice then members here may be able to help word it correctly. Of course leave your personal details (like name, address and vehicle registration number).

I’ve just quickly checked, and it would appear that there is a small claims procedure in both Northern Ireland and Ireland. Given that the dealer has repeatedly refused to repair or replace your navigation system, then I would mention in the letter that you would like to offer one final opportunity to resolve the matter to your satisfaction before initiating the small claims procedure and see whether they gets a different response. If all else fails, then initiate the the small claims procedure.

To find out more about it Google search “small claims Ireland” and “small claims Northern Ireland”.

Good luck.

Hi Bobby and thank you for taking from your time to do some research for me. Actually i decided to go tomorrow to a solicitor to send this letter for me. Hope this will show them that i didn't just " go away". Shame u buy a beautiful car and then u go in a place where "professionals" instead to look after your car they do bad to the car and then don't want to take the responsibility for their actions. .
. Thank you so much guys for your help and advice and enjoy your lovely beautiful Mercedes <3

Hi Can I ask if you managed to get this fixed as I have exactly the same problem but it wasn't by the dealer.
I thought the original dvd would fix it but don't have them.
Thanks

This type of issue is often fixes by reflashing the firmware on COMAND. This needs to be done by a dealer of specialist with genuine STAR.

As Markjay said, it requires Star so you need a Dealer or MB specialist to do this.

As Alfie, Markjay and I have said , you need to take it to someone with Star.

It needs a specialist computer to be connected to the car and the specialist knowledge to use it so the problem may be diagnosed and resolved.

Not really as we need the car with the navigation system in it. Sorry.

Make a trip of it. You can navigate home with it working.

Hi Stubbs, to answer to your question no, I didnt. The Covid thing came and I couldn't travel in UK as I live in Ireland-Dublin. I was messed around by the solicitor as well with " wait I will call u I need to speak with a college of.mine about this" and to be honest I don't have the patience to and the tine to run after lawyers and spend time in court or run after service manager. I have anger issue and probabily I will cant be very calm speaking with him lol. I worked in Court in ny country and just hate the system :(. I prefer to pay to be fix even is not my fault. But didn't find yet anybody to fix it . Probabioy I will have to sell the car with Navi not working even this will reduce the price. Did u fix your sat nav?
