Earlier on tonight I drove over to my brothers tonight who lives in the sticks, the area had been flooded for most of the day but the road was now clear so I proceded ahead.

Driving down this B road at around 35-40 miles per hour, all appeared to be dry & fine until I saw 'wet' patch of road. As I approached I touched the brake, instantly the car started to franticly fish tail left and right, left and right as I struggled to get it as straight as possible. Memories of what happend to my last W202 flashed through my mind as I shouted ****.

The entire road was one big ice rink!

At one point I swear I was at a right angle to the road, luck was on my side and I managed to control the skid by tapping the brake and steering to the direction of the car. My ASR hasnt been working for a while & ive not had it looked it for a while, need to get it done asap as ive no doubt it would have ether prevented this from happening or helped me out a great deal!

Luckly everything was okay apart from being shaken up, be careful guys (and gals) even when you think the road is clear - it might not be!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does ASR only apply the brakes to one or other rear wheel if there is wheelspin when you accelerate?

Do you have ESP as well? Electronic Stability Program, cause that is the only thing that may have helped you, even then it relies on some grip at the wheels to bring you back into line so winter tyres could have helped along with the ESP.

Wouldn`t have helped mate, exactly the same thing happened to me last night, and everything`s working on mine

Oh no! Sounds pretty scary! Glad you made it out of it ok though! :)

Had this joining the M3 on a slip-road a few weeks back, certainly wakes you up!

Anyway, glad all was well!

Edit:

Gina... you have a proper car again :D congratulations, it looks very smart!

Karl. you are absolutely determined to ruin that car as well so you have an excuse to buy a C43 :D

Are these bumpers cursed too? :D
No but your gearbox is (typed whilst at work, having a 10 min break after cringing at the remains of the said box )

lucky one mate... ASR is a necessity this time of the year... I was saved by it this morning... decided to overtake a focus a little too enthusiastically this morning, buried my foot, box changed gear, rear end lost grip and there was a car coming right at me...

Felt the ASR kick in and all was good... In that split second i could have ended up writing off my SEC had it not been for ASR.
