I have very recently bought a laptop computer. I want to network it to my PC but using the "Wizard" on XP doesnt work. How do I do it?

Computer specs :-

Main PC runs XP Pro
Laptop runs XP Home
Belkin Wireless Router (802.11b, 11mbps)
Belkin Desktop Network Card (F5D6001uk)
Laptop Panda Anti Virus etc
PC McAfee AV and firewall Suite

Ian - I take it you have a fairly newish laptop?

In that case it should have a network card/RJ45 socket. I recommend you set up the network first using a cable.

Once you are content then move onto the wifi bit.

You should have received a utility with the Belkin wifi card that will assist in the set up (use this in preference to XP utility).

Once you have wifi set up you MUST set up WEP at least and preferably MAC access control too.

I do not have the Belkin card but set up my fairly extensive network almost 2 years ago, if I can remember the detail - I will help you where I can?

Hope this is helpful.

You shouldnt need to run the wizzard.

Can both computers see the router? If they do , try the following.

what youve got to do is share at least one drive on each computer and set the same windows login username and password on both.

I.e. login on both computers with the username of Ian and MBCLUB as the password.

And remember that firewalls are a pain the the butt when youre trying to get the two computer connecting. ITs a good idea to watch the firewall logs to see what its actually blocking on both computers.

I think this is your manual for your kit (Belkin has a crap website!!) here

For WEP - see page 38
For MAC - see page 51.

Hope this helps!
