Weirdest fault appeared on my S350 (220).
I started the car with Keyless go and it refused to start at first, it also did this the week before but with me inserting the normal key and starting. (This is the model that had the credit card Keyless GO)
It started the second time but then went a little bit haywire, the display on the dash said the car was in Reverse and it was still in Park. I couldn't move the gear lever, I had a display message saying put car in Park, which physically that was where it was.
So I had a car that was running its engine but refusing to do nothing else. It wouldn't turn off in any way. Merc service and the local Indy have never heard of it before so I phoned rhe RAC.
Whilst waiting for the RAC I went through the Fuse chart and took a couple out marked Emergency Engine Stop, which thankfully it did, so at least it wasn't gonna run dry whilst I waited.
The rescue turned up and put the fuses back in and it behaved itself, he did a factory reset by disconnecting the battery and then when it was reconnected it was stalling and running very lumpy.
Anyway at the moment I have a message on the display saying 1 malfunction, Pre - Safe Inactive, it is not showing any other fault.
RAC man who knew his stuff indicated the first place to look is the Crank sensor followed by a Cam Shaft sensor.
I am just wondering how if the Pre Safe Inactive could be cleared by driving the car ovet 20kph and has anyone else had this fault....?
And, any thoughts on the fix would be useful.
Bloody good job the fuse chart was still where it should have been, in the toolkit
