New C-class - Please advise me :)

Useful info. I'll have a bash with my work phone. That's an iPhone 5C but on the same OS version as my 5S. Crucially it's on EE rather than Giffgaff (O2).

Works with the 5C on EE, not with the 5S on Giffgaff. Looks like it's a Giffgaff/O2 thing then.

It's very strange. I did a little more reading, the current COMAND Online system supports the latest connection protocol as does the iPhone 6/iOS8. Some older cars had an issue when Apple dropped DUN - this does not affect the current generation C Class (W205) though and Mercedes state on their website that they officially support the iPhone 6 and iOS 8.1.

So as you say, evidence points to it being an O2 issue. I'm clueless as to why this would be the case - I thought tethering was tethering.

Does the system allow you to have your mobile connected for telephony and another mobile connected for the internet connection, or does it only support the connection of one phone at a time?

One guy on this thread got it working by editing the APN settings on his phone:

I don't know if giffgaff has alternative settings that can be applied? Anyway, this is a real pain. I love giffgaff and don't want to move away from them for the sake of the COMAND Online system.

One device at a time. I'm not going to mess with APN settings as everything on the phone works fine for everything else and tetheringn to everything else I own. To be honest, tr Internet connectivity in the car does give me anything that would be quicker and easier to actually do on the device itself.

I guess you can always hook up your work phone if you needed the Online features.

How does one update the maps and software on the COMAND system? I would imagine that would be fairly data intensive by mobile internet standards.

Anyway, thanks for testing. I have an old mobile somewhere. I could keep it in the car with a Three PAYG sim in it and just connect it up when I want to use COMAND online features. A clunky solution, but I guess it's all we can do until a fix is identified, that or change networks!

Dealer job to the best of my knowledge. When it went to be fixed on Friday they said they'd updated the software. Whether there was a map update, I don't know.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to MB and the forum. :)

Just to add that I took delivery of a new W205 estate last week. Tomtom traffic and Connect Me services both not working. Booked into a local dealer to get them sorted. They muttered about a firmware update.

The car was manufacturer in Dec and had been sitting in the supplying dealer's storage since early Jan. Given they had two months, I've got no idea why they couldn't have done it as part of the PDI. I wonder what other firmware needs updating?

I bought it from a dealer a few hundred miles from home so can't easily take it back there. One of the problems with using DTD I guess is that you're unlikely to be local.

It's booked in with MB Brooklands next week. Will report back on things.

If you're taking delivery of a new car, might be worthwhile insisting on this. Perhaps even test this before you accept the car.

Very frustrating to have to take a 1 week old car in for diagnostics. :(

Thanks for the replies. I think the Sport with premium plus pack would be the choice for me. I'm exactly 6ft so should be ok. One of my main priorities is a smooth/quiet ride.
I've found the ride very comfortable on the Sport. Can take speed bumps and stealth pot holes without dislocating any discs. No regrets.

The only thing I would like to have got on the AMG line was the black open pore trim. But it was a lot extra just for that.

£3,500 deposit is your money that is not guaranteed to be there at end of PCP? Lots of debate on here about having any equity left in the car at the end of PCP term, search this forum for some good information. My worry about PCP is putting in too much deposit because often it's all gone come around time for the next deal.
The deposit doesn't really matter. Higher deposit means lower payments. Lower deposit equals higher monthly payments.

Other variables such as dealer deposit, interest rate and GFV are fixed.
You choose the term and the dealer which gives you the best discount ;)

If you don't have the deposit to stump up front, then you just end up paying the same amount over the term in the form of higher monthly payments.

Putting down the maximum deposit doesn't equate less interest. You pay the same amount over the term.

Personally I didn't want too many credit commitments on my credit file so I put down £5k deposit.

Hi mate,

Welcome. Are you on O2? Could the traffic and MB Me problems be linked to what bensales and I have been discussing above?

Thanks :)

I'm on Three. When I tether the phone, I can get Internet on the COMAND web browser but no TomTom traffic.

I'm sure it's COM module rather than the phone tethering as the Connect Me services don't work. These obviously require their own Internet access independent separate to the phone as they need to work when you're away from the car!

I can echo other comments here about the COMAND Nav and the idiotic 'half left'. Joining a motorway and having no idea how long you're staying on it isn't great either. I like to be able to plan breaks and I have no idea if I'll still be on the motorway for the next service station!

No traffic is a comm module failure if you have Comand Online. That's what mine went in for last Friday to have fixed (successfully I should say)

And interestingly my 5s on Giffgaff decided to connect today. I'd set it all up at home last night but it didn't work. But I had ticked the 'permanent connection' box. Coming into London this morning I noticed the connected icon was displayed on the screen and it was working fine.

That's really good. Pls. keep us updated.

Latest firmware update & doesn't work on Vodafone. Tethering activated with Vodafone and doesn't work.
