New C350 CDI Order!!

The car was a 250CDI sport saloon with the 18" alloys.

Maybe I noticed it more because i had the stereo turned off,but even so it seemed excessive to me.

Ive just spoken to my father in law who up until recently always had a Mercedes on his drive,he states he once sent a new car back for replacement tyres due to excessive road noise!

Well!!!! Ended up taking a C250 out as no C350 and to be honest I was very disappointed with the car.
Performance was average at best but for me the biggest let down was the road noise, wind noise and engine noise!!
That 4 cylinder diesel engine sounded like a tractor! My wife after the test drive said she felt like she'd just come out of a washing machine and to be honest I had to agree with her.
I currently drive VW golf diesel for work and if I'm honest,it's quieter and more comfortable.
I don't mean to offend anybody it was just my opinion.

Now is the V6 diesel just as noisy?

Are all the C class that noisy in the cabin?

I went with the intention to sign up for a nice C350 but now I'm not too sure, could well end up with a 330d M sport instead.

To top it all off, they had a white sport plus round the back, to which my 12 year old daughter stated "it looks chavvy".
I really like the look of the sport plus in white but the noise has completely put me off.

We test drove the c250 and thought the same about the engine being loud.
If they don't have any c350 to test then ask to go out in an e350 as thats what we did just to have an idea of what the v6 was like compared to the i4.
The v6 is so much better, a lot smoother to drive.

Must admit there was a fair bit of tyre roar in the E coupe Sport I drove recently (the E coupe is a C class chassis in case you weren't aware), but I put it down to the 19" low profile and wide tyres. I say roar.......it was slightly more noticeable than the A pillar/mirror roar.

Wouldn't have said it was intrusive.

Really?

I had no idea that was the case. (not being sarcastic for the avoidance of doubt!)

I assumed it would be based on...erm the E class.

I did have a very very quick drive of an E350 and the engine did sound a little quieter.
Maybe I should just go for it and order one!! Just drive with the stereo on!

Oh,I actually liked the red seat belts..:o

I recently took out a C220 CDI and a C250 CGI for comparison. I have to say that I too found the C220 rather noisy at low speeds. The 250 petrol was far quieter by comparison in terms of the engine which I imagine is to be expected when comparing a petrol engine to a diesel one. However, when driving the 250 - and thereby eliminating much of the engine noise from the equation - I noticed very little road and wind noise coming from the car. And that was in the wet too.

I was coming from a petrol 330 m sport FYI on 18" RFTs, which made a lot more noise than the merc.

I have gone for 19" :thumb:

Hope the test drive is in the 8sp auto.....lovely thing, turns from normal auto into an almost DSG like manual :)

Engine is rough in 320D format

Yes mate,its the 8speed auto box.:D

Nobody has the 330 yet,so it was the 320 or nothing!!.

Dont think I`ll bother with the 2k sat nav in the BMW either.

What colour have you gone for? I like the old M3 Estoril blue but the wife says no,probably black for me if I like it more than the MB.

Nice 3 series mate,I had an 07 plate 330d M sport coupe and loved it,quick aswell.

Lol about the Sat nav, it does a lot more than the COMAND, apparently you can get a BMW app that switches on cooling, flashes lights, unlocks it, etc from your phone.

I have gone for Estoril blue :thumb:....wimped out and gone with the black leather......not superman spec :D

I can't get over the performance of the 330D, 0-60 in 5.6, and yet 60+mpg. Cake and eat it is indeed possible.

320D is not very good on a test drive, the chassis can handle soooo much more power that it makes the OK engine feel weedy. Would be OK in daily use.

Agreed.I cant quite believe the performance, which is what makes it so attractive to me.60+ MPG I would be amazed if I got close to that.

Ha C220CDI economy with Brabus'd up C350CDI performance......there IS a god :)

I love stuff like that, even though it serves no real purpose for me, I still want it!

I have the Universal Media Interface fitted to my Audio 20 which gives me satnav, my music is on a USB stick, I don't own an I-pod, and Bluetooth phone is standard, and I can adjust my clock myself without too much difficulty, so COMAND wouldn't seem to offer a great deal for me. Sounds like an overpriced satnav to me.

Never, never, never expect to get anywhere close to BMW's claimed mpg figures!! Having had 5 different e90 3 series, I would say that the C class ride is superior, the handling not quite as sharp but pretty close, and the build quality (of mine) is better. A lot more toys for the money too. The F30's have moved things on for BMW esp. with regard to the ride, but I'm not a fan of the styling.

Engine noise for the 250d is comparable to the 320d. The rest of the car (tyre and wind noise) is quieter so makes the engine a little more noticeable. Most 4 cylinder diesels are worst at low speeds, but once above 30'ish are much quieter. 6 cylinder diesels are obviously superior but you pay with their thirst.
