Hi, I have a mercedes for first time. C class 220d. The car seems to idle rough to me, I performed engine mount test in drive and reverse with brakes on. The engine rose about 1 1/2 to 2 inches both sides. It is only just under 3 year old and 20k. Sounds rough when accelerating too. I have nothing to compare, so others views welcome. Thanks wjmb.

Thanks. I have done a small video but can't upload it here :(

Send loads of cash to Eurromerc and they'll send you new engine mounts by return post.

I'm taking it to the dealer later. Anyone had a look at the video?
Just dont want to found to be talking nonsense, before I am.

I think the mounts in mine are a bit iffy, but I'm sure it doesn't move as much as that when tested.

Any engine will move like that when forced to rev in gear with the brakes on!

Expect a pants down moment and release of substantial amounts of monies from you bank account, ''sorry sir, but this issue is not covered by your MB warranty, thats just about to run out''

Have a search on the forum for a recommended local MB indy...for second opinion and quote.

I'm taking it to the dealer later.

I was only giving it 1500 to 2000 rpm.
Is this amount of movement considered acceptable?

Yes.... But it's not my car, I'm not driving it, so ignore me.....

At 1500 - 2000 rpm, you're banging up the torque and not going anywhere, so something has to give. In this case, it's the flexibility of the engine mounts. Normally, the car would be heading towards 40 MPH at these revs.

I'd be surprised if they find anything wrong.

+1

The OM 651 turbocharged diesel 220 engine develops some 400Nm torque from 1,400 -2,800rpm ---thats big V8 petrol torque albeit developed in a normally aspirated V8 petrol engine at much higher revs like 3,500+
So you might expect that degree of movement. There are several other things that might cause engine roughness over the rev range.
