New E class 220 cdi factory collection.

And it's an absolute bargain too, in my opinion.

Considering that you are put in hotels, fare-paid to get there in the first place, hospitality et al. It's a bargain, I tells ya!

Unless I've missed something?

It is a bargain. Porsche charge an additional £1000 or so for factory collection.

Just a couple of questions:

I presume the payment is all arranged at your dealer before you leave the country?
You have to pay your dealer for the car a few days before you leave the UK otherwise the collection centre won't release it into your custody
Is the courtesy insurance also arranged prior to leaving the UK?
They take your details in the UK before you leave and you're given the doc's at the collection centre when you pick up the car
And I also presume they give you a ticket for the Chunnel for the return journey. Is that fully flexible?
You have to pay a small surcharge if you want a fully flexible ticket, but the surcharge is much less than the normal price difference between the ticket types
If you pick it up from the factory do they still charge the delivery chaRGE.
Yes, the Delivery Charge is still levied.

This was not the case in 2006 when I collected mine. It was always a fully flex ticket. Really great and since then I never book anything else when crossing on the Tunnel.

I really really hate you.......

No, Not really at all, just a teensy weensy bit jealous. As mine is a lease car I never got the option but one day when I buy a new Merc on my retirement I'll do the factory pick up. Mind you, BA will have gone out of business and we'll have to go Ryanscare, then stay in the local Travelodge equivalent, walk to the factory and have the car handed over by a disgruntled contract worker from whichever country provides the cheapest labour at the time.... just my luck.

Thanks again - it was a great envy inducing read!!

They offered Lufthansa or BA - I chose BA for the BAEC miles and to experience T5.

Thanks for that info Phil
